Unhappy Sister + drug OD = almost died - October 13th 2009, 07:01 AM

I just don't get it. It doesn't make sense. She was fine. Well she wasn't fine but she wasn't suicidal, at least she didn't seem like it...

My sister went away to college in August, she hated it where she was - begged to come home. We told her to finish the semester and she could switch colleges and come home. I guess that was too long...

She decided to kill herself by taking 30 Zoloft in her dorm one afternoon. We still aren't sure if she or her roommate called the ambulance. My dad is already there (thousands of miles away) bringing her home. She didn't die. They pumped her stomach.

I found out Saturday night - a few hours after it happened.

I feel like I should be more upset than I am.. I didn't cry. Still haven't. I just don't understand. I am off of school for this week so I can't talk to my counselor, please help me. I don't even know what to do right now...

Oh wow, I'm so sorry, what a tough thing to deal with. First of all, I want you to know that ANY reaction you have to this difficult situation is completely acceptable. Do not feel like you are supposed to feel a certain way, whatever way you're supposed to be feeling is what you're actually feeling.

Take some breaths, and remember that none of this is your fault, your parents fault, or your sister's. Sometimes things are just out of our control, and the best we can do is try and move on, to start over, and make sure we don't make the same mistakes again.

I'd say the most important thing to do right now is to speak out! What are you feeling, thinking, wondering? What are you afraid of, happy about, confused about? Just keep talking, to let things get stuck inside. Remember there are LOTS of people in your life who care and are willing to help you, not to mention that we are always here whenever you need.

Keep your head up, alright? You're not alone.
Take care,
