Unhappy :( - October 16th 2009, 01:55 PM

So I've been depressed for a really long time, and I can't seem to get out of it. My life is pretty much crashing down, and its suffocating me. My friend Lindsay says I should think about getting help for it, but that would require talking to my parents, which I just don't do. Help?

“I can only hope that they’ll turn that anger and frustration and madness into something positive, so that two, three, four, five hundred will step forward, so the gay doctors will come out, the gay lawyers, the gay judges, gay bankers, gay architects … I hope that every professional gay will say ‘enough’, come forward and tell everybody, wear a sign, let the world know. Maybe that will help.” Harvey Milk, 1978

Hey,

I am sorry to hear that you are going through this. Depression can be horrible when it feels like you are just trapped in it but there is light at the end of the tunnel. You will get through it; it might take time but you will get there so don't give up. Your friend is right about getting help for it. Could you not go to the doctors on your own? It would be confidential and they wouldn't have to tell your parents unless you were at risk of harm. If you couldn't then would it really be such a bad thing if your parents found out? They could be supportive and help you through it. I know it is a huge step to take but you could gain something. The sooner you reach out for that help then the sooner things can begin to change.

I am always happy to listen if you ever want to talk. Stay strong

My brother and I are the only ones on my dad's side of the family who haven't had to go to therapy for something or another, and I don't wanna be another messed up Padley kid. Also, I live 7 miles out of town, so I can't just randomly go to the doctor. Plus my parents would find out when they got the bill from the doc visit. I'm f-ed up the A.
