Damn I know what you mean. Nice people always seem to live far apart. I have no friends where I live at all and everyone seems to be rude jerks or drink/sex/appearance obsessed anyway. Yet there's all these awesome people online.

Guess the problem is there are lots of nice people in every area who would love some new friends, but nearly all of them are quiet/shy or hide away or aren't outwardly sociable, so none of them get to know each other or realize they even exist. =/

I completely agree! It would be so nice. But I know like so many other people that what prevents me from having "friends" and meeting people is anxiety and being shy. In my experiences of talking with people, I have found that some of the best and nicest people are the ones who are too "shy"- It is frustrating and ironic....

It's awful 'cause I know a lot of people, myself included, would leap at the chance to meet similar people in similar situations and would benefit from actual contact with each other.

Yup, that's the main problem. You might have two people who share common interests/personality, might both badly want a friend to talk to.... but both are too shy and anxious and as a result avoid talking in case they "bother" or "irritate" the other.

My own problem is incredibly low self-esteem. If I'm talking to someone and they go quiet even for a moment I instantly assume I'm annoying them. I also rarely talk to people who don't share a lot of my interests, purely because I fear I wont know what to talk about and will bore them. It's extremely rare I ask to add anyone to friend-list and never as a contact like msn or fb. I wait for them to ask to be safe. But the truth is they might be waiting for me. It really is frustrating.

If there was only a way to know other peoples thoughts and tell how they feel.
