Question I think my best friend is considering suicide - July 6th 2010, 09:53 PM

My best friend has a history of cutting, and one of her best friends just committed suicide and she now has a countdown on her blog including posts like this...
Can we really believe itís only 23 days away? My, how my view on this has changed since I last discussed this with someone. So sad. Not. I donít care, and clearly my ďfriendsĒ donít either. I absolutely hate how I sound right now. The whiney bitch blaming her friends for everything. And despite how it sounds, I donít blame them. I blame myself for not being open enough to tell anyone else. I blame myself for being too subtle.

Does anyone know whats going on? Kudos to you if you do. Youíre not stupid.

I think everyone is in denial

Please help me. I don't know what to do, or what I'll do if I lose my best friend.

you can change alot in 20 days.
try talking to her about it;
tell her how much you care about her as a friend
and that you wouldnt be able to stand if she was gone...
comfort her.
she might think that no one cares about her,
tell her how much you appreciate your friendship with her alot.
maybe try spending alot of time with her and her other friends?
so she sees what she might be giving up?

good luck.
i hope you help your friend out, and stop her.

Hey there!

You really need to talk to your friend. Tell her that your concern about the blogs, and that s/he can talk to you about anything. they need some help. Loosing a friend to suicide isn't easy, but if you remind them that you are there for them, they will come around ... OK ... back choice of words - but I hope you know what I mean. And tell them that you love them.

Hope it all works out

So much for that idea ...

Way to go for reading in between the lines! This does sound like a cry for help to me. But like Amiko said, you can change a lot in 23 days.

The first thing I think you ought to do is get an adult involved. If this is what you think it is, it's important she gets the help she needs and that she is monitored closely to make sure she is safe. This isn't something you can fix all on your own. Please tell someone you trust.

Next, try confronting your friend. Let her know that you're concerned, that you care, and that you're there for her. Listen to her if she wants to talk. Offer her a shoulder to lean on should she need it. But, also make sure that you have someone to turn to as well. Having a friend who is suicidal is scary! Don't keep your feelings suppressed. It will be more difficult to help your friend if you're feeling emotionally overwhelmed yourself.

Take care and hang in there!

Why don't you try a far fetched idea. I did this and it worked. But it may or may not work, and your best friend has to really care about you and not want to loose you. Now this is what you do:
You get her alone and look her straight in the eyes and tell her if you do I do, which means(and you may have to tell her this way)If you commit suicide then I commit suicide. And if you have a blog post the same amount of days, now make sure that your other friends know that your not really planning on killing yourself.

I did this to one of my friends over the phone. It was a guy who I really cared about as a friend and he told me that he was thinking about killing himself and seriously I told him if he commits suicide then I would too and I wasn't joking. He is still alive today and this was six months ago.

Reassure her that she has friends who care about her and maybe even tell her about this website where she can get advice. But most importantly be a support system for your friend. Thats the most you can be in a time as tough as this one.
