Telling Parents - August 15th 2011, 09:26 PM

So I've decided to tell my school counselor that I'm suicidal. But the thing is, she'll be required to tell my parents. My parents are nothing but supportive, but I am still scared that they'll be worried or weird once they know:/. I mean, they even already know I'm depressed. I just don't want them to feel guilty or try to have a talk about it with me (that's what therapy's for..) or anything. What are your experiences with your parents finding out about you being suicidal or depressed?

Well my boyfriend told on me TO MY SCHOOL in the middle of the day, whereupon my school counselor called my mom.

It went REALLY well. Not.

Oh wow, that must've been hard:/.
How'd your parents react? Were they eventually helpful?

My mom was pissed because she had to come in to school and sign paperwork saying she didn't want counseling from the school. She was more upset about the school finding out (despite that being not my fault) then the fact that I may have been suicidal.

My Dad never found out about it, but I did open up to my Mom- she knew all along she was just waiting for me to open up to her. Honestly, it's really good you're telling your parents. If it's what you think is best, and you are considering it then you must be ready to tell them. They can get you the help and support you need. A heavy burden will hopefully be lifted off, by opening up to them. Best of luck, <3

Luckily for me, my parents were completely supportive of me. They found me the help I needed and really took to heart the fact that I didn't want to talk to them about what was going on. Although I know they wonder about how I'm doing, they aren't like constantly on my case about how I'm feeling. So it's really worked out well for me. I hope things go well for you! If you need anything, feel free to PM me.
