Night time depression - November 30th 2011, 09:46 PM

I dont know if this is such a thing, but during the day Im in a really good mood when Im with other people, but without fail when it gets to night, I feel absolutely awful, I get so miserable and just want to cry hard all night, though I dont let myself.

I dont know if its depression, but I just hate feeling so down every night, also I have pretty bad anxiety about everything and anything, would that be related?

And in that moment, I swear we were infinite.

Re: Night time depression - November 30th 2011, 10:10 PM

I know exactly what you are talking about. The same thing happens to me. I'll have a great day but then at night I just get so upset over nothing and just cry myself to sleep most nights. Nighttime is when I have my scariest thoughts and the only thing that keeps me going is saying to myself, if I still feel like this in the morning, I'll do something about it, but it's always gone in the morning. I don't know about you, but at night my anxiety climbs way up. My mind races about anything and everything in my life. I'll think for hours straight and overwhelm myself to the point where I get depressed. Honestly, I would help you if I can but as you can see I'm struggling with the same thing and I have no idea how to cope with it. Sometimes I'll stay up for hours just sulking in my thoughts. Just wanted to let you know you're not the only one. I'll let you know if I figure out how to feel better and you let me know if you figure it out.
Sorry I probably wasn't much of a help, but good luck!

Yay, I'm glad. And yeah I thought I was the only one too. My mom like freaks out over it and always thinks something happened during the day to make me feel depressed at night and she doesn't believe me when I tell her nothing happened. PM me anytime if you just need someone to talk to

Re: Night time depression - November 30th 2011, 10:27 PM

My depression gets so much worse at night. What I try to do is bury myself in work in the evenings, I am currently doing some xmas temp work until 9:30pm so by the time I get home, I'm so tired that I just go straight to bed, rather than having time to dwell on negative thoughts. Night time depression is actually more common than you might think. I find that keeping busy right up until the evening is the best way to avoid feeling too bad.

Charlie, I understand exactly what you mean. Its as if the darkness brings out all my problems and I feel so lonely, like a crippling kind of lonely. Maybe you could do something, do a hobby, or watch a movie, something lighthearted to make you feel good. But always remember with the dark, comes a beautiful moon in the sky waiting for someone to notice its beauty. Things will get better, they always do. I'm here to talk if you need anything, anything at all...even a simple (smiley face), I'm here.

That's actually Manic-Depressive Disorder, otherwise (now commonly) known as BiPolar. Simply put, mania at daytime and depression at night. It's rampant in my family line

But yeah, lithium helps for that.

Re: Night time depression - December 1st 2011, 02:10 AM

I know how you feel. I could have a fantastic day with very little or no negative thoughts but once it hits 5:30 P.M. or so, I get depressed and just don't want anything to do with anyone or anything. It's really hard because I have to fake being happy for my mom to think that I'm perfectly ok. Also, when my mom and my sister go to bed and I'm all alone, I get flashbacks and very bad images in my head that I'm not gunna go into detail about. I think it's because the worst things have happened to me at night but I guess I'll never really know. I just distract myself with a movie or food or texting someone. So try those and if you ever need someone to talk to, feel free to PM me. I'm always around and I'll try to answer you as soon as I can. Hope you're doing alright. xx

Re: Night time depression - December 1st 2011, 03:16 AM

It happens to me when im at home at night after my classes, I just get all depressed and stuff, feeling really hopeless. It really sucks. I get so sad sometimes and hopeless I tear up. I text my friend and stuff but shes 200 miles away and she is just getting tired of texting so now its very sporadic and well it doesnt do much to lift my spirits up because im beggining to think she can careless about me.. I get so bad and sad for no reason at all that I can end up just tearing up and just crying to sleep..I hate it.

Re: Night time depression - December 1st 2011, 11:25 AM

Okay so now I know that I am not alone in this! I do well during the day when I am at school with my friends. But at home I just get depressed and sad after staying alone for like more than a hour. I tried calling up my friends and talking to them sometimes but most of the time I couldn't get them free at that time. SO my new strategy of tackling it is taking up projects. Presently I am working on a placard to put in front of a tree in the memory of a martyr. After that I am thinking I'll start volunteering for a group which will need my art abilities to make posters and all for them. That should keep my mind off things and make the nights better.
I read a lot too so sometimes picking up a happy happy type novel helps too.

I know exactly what you mean.
I almost always do this.
I hardly ever go to bed happy even when it was a fantastic day.
I just don't get it either.

I as well know what you mean, I deal with it daily as well although it gets worse during the winter months.

Same thing happens with me. I think it is becaus ewhen we are with other people we are distraced from the pain and at night alone we are hit full force with all our problems.
