Helping an animal charity? - July 19th 2012, 05:08 PM

Hey,

I was wondering if anyone has some ideas for what I could do to help and animal charity over the next few weeks that I have off?
They are mainly a dog rescue, but sometimes they have cats in as well as rabbits. They are volunteer based, with foster homes for the animals and sometimes they also put poundies in kennels when they can, since they visit the pounds on a weekly basis and try to get as many into foster homes that they can. Quite often they also have puppies/pregnant bitches.
I have helped before by emailing companies for donations, and putting posters up.
Anyone know what else I could do?

Hey.

I think it's great that you want to do this! Why don't you get in touch with the charity (or have a look at their website, if they have it) to see what they need? Many charities tend to have a list of things they're always looking for, so you could help with those. For example, they might be looking for people to donate food/blankets/toys, so you could help organise a drive for that, even if it's just amongst your friends and family. Or you could do another donation drive, since the money will definitely go to a good cause. Whatever you do, it sounds like you'll be making a difference, which is something to be proud of.

Good luck!

Usually shelters recruit volunteers. The one I volunteer at is always looking for help IN the shelter. Money is definitely helpful but all those animal dishes, litter boxes, and toys? They need to be washed. All those blankets and beds? They need to be washed. Cages need to be cleaned, poop needs to be scooped, etc etc. Money helps take care of the cost but there is a lot of dirty work behind the scenes people don't necessarily think about. Talk to the staff there. The place I go has an orientation for new volunteers then a mentor to help teach them what to do. I'm sure they will be thankful for the help.

Whatever it is, chances are I've been there.
If I can make it out, you can too.
