im worried - February 27th 2015, 01:33 AM

I think my cat is traumatized from the move. It is heart breaking to see him like this, he looks like he shrunk to a size of a mouse. His tail is puffier than his whole body combined.

Well he does seem slightly better. Only slightly though. Like he came out of hiding and is sitting on my sister's bed.

Hey there,

Sorry to hear about your cat. A change in environments, routine or added stress can affect all types of animals.

Perhaps you could treat your cat extra specially? Give him his favourite food, favourite toy, or something that comforts him. I don’t know much about cats, but I know that there are a variety of medicines or sprays for cats to help them calm down when dealing with anxiety.

If he doesn’t seem to get used to things soon, it’s probably worthwhile taking him to the vet.

Hope your cat gets better soon!

Hey there,

Maybe you could give him extra attention by playing with him or giving your cat cuddles.

As Holly said, you can take him to the vet if he doesn't get better soon.

Hope I helped.

Hey, I know my one cat is really sensitive to changes and when I was moving rooms he was not impressed. I was trying to get him used to the new room but he would pee on the floor, the bed frame and was down right miserable. What helped was making sure it still smelt like what he was used to if that makes any sense. I brought down my bed frame and my mattress along with two pillows that he slept on in my old room. I made sure he had his food and water along with a brand new scratching post.

You could try to make sure your cat is comfortable and treat him special for a little while. I mean, give him treats every so often as well as cuddles. I would look into some natural calming sprays as well. I personally haven't used them but I know they can help. If your cat doesn't seem to get better you may want to take him to the vet because there could be something wrong.

I hope your cat feels better.

Thanks all of you for replying. I think he's doing better. He was playing yesterday. I've been spending a lot of time with him and he was purring. He does still hide from time to time but that's not to worry about I'm guessing, considering we don't nearly have as much space as we used so he is still exploring the different secret hiding spots. We also don't have his cardboard box anymore so I might make a new one for him.
Occasionally he gets freaked out by the noise from the heater or some random dog barking outside. But overall he seems okay.
