Flea Collar - November 2nd 2017, 07:10 PM

So I invested in the Seresto flea collar for my kitty cat. My veterinarian recommended it for her. Has anyone ever had any experience with it and using it on their pets? And is it really good for 8 months? To me that's just off.

Hey,

I have not used that particular brand of flea collar. I know we have used them in the past and they worked okay. I think that they do tend to last a bit of time as well. I am not 100% certain if it lasts the whole time they say. If your vet suggested it then it might be worth calling them and asking about that since it's likely something they would be familiar with.

Are there any reviews of this brand? You could look into the reviews if there are any. I do know that some flea collars last a decent amount of time. My relative had a cat and their cat had one that lasted six months with is only a few weeks short of eight months. Definitely talk to your vet and see if you can ask them sone questions about it.

Hey Court,

In my personal opinion (and the opinion of others when I used to work at Petsmart) I don't feel that Flea Collars work as well as others say. With my dog, we get a flea and tick pill that we give to her every 3 months, and it starts working right away.

Again, this is a personal opinion

I've never used a flea collar for my dogs.

Like Brittany. I've used flea and tick tablets and they've worked really well.

My parents never used a flea collar on any of my pets. My vet recommended a liquid that we put on the back of their neck and then a pill that we now use if our pets get fleas.

Have you read the reviews of the product? That might help. I looked it up and it seemed to have fairly okay reviews.

Hope you manage to find something that works!

This is what we did with the cat my roommate had in college. I've heard flea collars don't always work super well, but it's definitely worth a try as fleas can be quite annoying.

This is true. Flea collars don't always work however, I have also heard that can be dependent on brand which might be why the vet suggested a specific brand.

This collar is working really, really well, I'm impressed. And the vet said it's good for 6 to 8 months but is more potent between right when you put it on and 6 months. He said it's best to replace the collar after 6.

So if you're looking for something somewhat safer than liquid or pills for your animal, get the seresto collar.
