Goldfish feeding. - September 27th 2010, 08:29 PM

How often should you feed a regular gold fish? Is it once or twice a day?

At the moment I'm feeding him once a day, but I know some people feel them twice a day.

The reason I ask is because when he's hungry (I assume he's hungry ) he follows you around the room, in his bowl, and just goes crazy. And dives for the top of the bowl if you drop a bit of food in.

Is this because he's hungry? Or just him being a fish? xD Am I underfeeding the poor guy?

PS: I'm assuming hes a boy fish anyway, and guess what his name is? FISH.

Thanks guys.

I always thought you're supposed to feed fish once a day, but then again my fish never lasted more than 2 weeks.....

Haha this is so cute. Love the name. Very creative.

Fishies are fed once a day to answer your question.
I don't know if the fish is hungry..he could just be hyper?

Nah..Hyper fish?

Whenever I had fish we fed them once a day, in the morning. I was really paranoid about over feeding them.

Thing is, goldfish occasionally just scoot around since they see you moving about. As for food, well, a sign of overfeeding is that they'll be trailing poo from their cloaca. If you don't see this, then that's a good sign. Keep in mind they *will* always eat any food they see until it blocks their gut and kills them, so don't look to the fish to tell you when he's hungry, since he'll always appear hungry. And from the sounds of it though, once every 1-2 days seems good.

I feed my fish once a day, and only a pinch. I heard somewhere that there stomach is around the size of their eyes, so Ive always been careful feeding them.

’Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the [mome raths] outgrabe.
