Angry My sister's neglecting her new rat - November 26th 2011, 04:23 PM

I have had rats since I was about 13 years old. They are the most wonderful and low maitenence and intelligent pets I could ever ask for.

This past September, my poor baby Isabelle passed away And now her sister, Mira, has a tumor.

Enough about me, following in my footsteps my sister decided she wanted a rat for her birthday. And, being the favorite, of course she got what she wanted. She got a male rat named Sammi from Pet Provisions, I totally disagreed with this, and knew I would end up doing all the work, and I even refused to go with her to get Sammi.

Since then, life has been nothing but hell for that poor creature. My sister decided to be lazy one day and filled his cage up with wooden beddfing, instead of the special rat bedding that is for RATS. Wooden bedding can kill a rat in a matter of days. It will give them deadly respritory infections. On top of that, she hasn't been changing his water or gving him new food, I have. And when I saw the wooden bedding in his cage I had to take that huge ass 50 gallon tank downstairs and clean it out and put in new bedding for HER rat. Uggh. I'm so sick of this already. This is going to stop RIGHT NOW

They can have their world
We'll create our own
I may not be brave or strong or smart
But somewhere in my secret heart

I know
Love will find a way
Anywhere I go
I'm home
If you are there beside me

Maybe you should tell your parents about this if they don't already know and let your sister know that by doing this, she is harming the animal and explain why.
I'm sorry to hear this. A pet should be cared for and it upsets me when I hear about lazy kids who refuse to take care of something that they wanted so much. I hope the rat will be okay.

when nothing goes right, i go left.

Don't worry, I've got him covered. I can't stand to see an animal suffer. But I knew it would come down to this after a few weeks and she was no longer excited about it It pissed me off because it's like an 'I freaking told you so' moment with my parents.

Dude, if you care about the rat so much talk to your parents about it so they know not to get your sister a pet for awhile, and take care of it. Don't get so upset, it'll just hurt you and the rat. Think of it as caring for the family pet, not your sisters pet. Maybe you can convince them to even move the rat somewhere that the entire family can care for it, not just let it be "hers"

Honestly, the whole "I told you so" thing? Not going to get you anywhere. Ever. Learn to move on from life's setbacks, don't get so caught up on something you had no control over.

Take me seriously.
I dare you.
