Question Guinea pigs anyone? - April 1st 2012, 01:28 AM

Hi!! Ok so I have two pet guinea pigs. One is Rolo, and the other is Twix. I don't have any big problems with them at the moment. But when I first purchased them I read that they were the kind of pets that sleep at night. But it seems like they are mostly asleep during the day and awake at night. When they are awake they love to run around their cage making A LOT of noise. I have put them on my dresser and down on the ground but they still are loud. I don't know what to do.. Any suggestions?? Anything helps!!

Hey there (:

Guinea pigs are active around the clock because they take lots of short naps instead of one long sleep. You can try putting blankets over their cage to relax them, or playing with them more in the day to tire them out. If you don't already, you should try giving your piggies floor time- mine ADORE it and it tires them out well too. I let them run around the large bathroom in my house and hide carrots for them to find. (:

If your cage is on the smaller size, they may be feeling restless from lack of exercise. For two guinea pigs, their cage should be a minimum 7.5 sq ft.

Generally, most guinea pigs should get used to YOUR schedule. So if you leave a light on at night, be sure to cover their cage with a light airy blanket or towel so they think it's night, and they will start to learn that when it is dark, it's time to sleep/be quiet.
