Exclamation What to do??? - July 20th 2012, 12:05 PM

So, I used to self harm. Alot.
My skin is really tan, so when I cut, the scars lefts behind a bunch of really noticable white lines across my arms.
What do I do? I still have the scars and I have been wearing long sleeves for almost a year. I am so damn tired of it. I even wear longsleeve around the house; most ofmy family dont even know I used to cut.
since I aalready have scars, cant I just cut again? I need to. I fucking need to.
i dont know why I am acting like this. I usually dont, but still......

Hi there

I can understand what you mean about scars. I have a ton that are between one and 4 years old and like you I'm fairly tanned and they are white lines. I spent ages covering them up and eventually I just got tired of it. So I stopped hiding them and no one has ever noticed! I think we notice our scars a lot more but seriously, most people will never even look at them. People would have to look at your arms pretty closely to see them. Just try to be brave a wear short sleeves one day and you'll soon gain confidence!

It sounds like your going through a pretty tough time. Stopping self harm on your own can be rough, do you have any friends or family you can talk to? You can always PM me if you need someone to talk to

Try hold on to the reasons you are doing this. You can be free of self harm. You don't deserve to hurt and you can be happy.

Stay Strong
Faye xx

Re: What to do??? - July 20th 2012, 12:29 PM

Thanks.
I just.....feel like, when I cut, that...i dont know, i have somethingbto do.
i dont have alot of friends. People call me thier friends but I dont like half of those people. I just feel like the scars are so notticable, like they are glowing.
If I told my family, they would not do anything. My mom found out i used to cut, so she cried a litle and told me to put shae butter on the scars. Thats it.
I think I have BPD..

Cutting is not easy to give up. Sometimes it feels like it's the only thing in the world. I can really relate. Just remember there are so many better things you can do. Things that make you happy, even if it's little things, like watching your favourite TV programme. Life can be so much more than hurting yourself. You've come this far, so please hang on!

It can be hard for family to come to terms with stuff like this. My mum just swept it under the rug for the first year or so and I don't think I have ever talked about it to my dad. All I can say is keep trying. You'll get there eventually. I have a much better relationship with my family now but it took a lot of hard work to get there.

Self harm can often be a symptom of another disorder like depression or BPD. The only way to know, and to get treated properly is to get professional help, which would probably mean talking to your mum. I don't want to sound too preachy, I know it can be annoying when people tell you to get help and it's the last thing in the world you want to do. But bear it in mind.

Makeup is the best remedy! And no, don't go back to cutting, i swear it's the worst addiction ever and it's horrible hiding the ugly scars trust me, i know.

The thing is, i already have scars. So if I cut over them, it won't make a big difference.

I would say to either use concealer, just not give a flying fuck, or wear a shit-ton of bracelets...
I personally didnt give a fuck though I wore bracelets to cover the fresher cuts i made...

Hope this helped,
Lia

I dont have any concealer, and probably wont for a long time, since I never go out.
my mom has and i tried hers but she is like 10 shades lighter than me!!
(My dad is black and my mom is white, so im really tan.)
Whatever.
I dont have any bracelets.
And i care.

I just cut myself again, on my thigh.
I dont know how to stop...
