Glue. - August 20th 2012, 08:49 AM

Recently I was admitted to an ED and had some cuts closed with skin glue, which I've never come across before.

Has anybody else had cuts glued (either from SH or something else)?

I don't really know what to expect. The glue won't wash off in the shower and I don't have alcohol swabs. Am I supposed to just leave it there? It looks really messy, and because it's so gnarly the cuts that have been glued actually look a lot worse than they are. So yeah, what are you supposed to do when your cuts have been glued? I tried peeling some of it off, but it's stuck fast to my skin and peeling it (just off skin, not off actual wounds) actually hurts.

Yeah. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

For less serious cuts, that don't need stitches, they sometimes use glue instead. It's basically superglue, which is why you can't get it off. And no, you shouldn't be trying to get it off. It will come off by itself in a week or so. Here's a link to some information that they should have given you before sending you home:

Take care!

I know this is common practice on construction sites if someone gets an injury, for example. As far as removing the glue, you could try rubbing alcohol. I've removed Crazy Glue from my skin with some 99% Isopropyl Alcohol.

You don't need to remove the glue, like steri strips, its there to hold the wound together. I've had cuts glued many times and was always told not to get it went to prevent the wound from opening. Leave it, don't touch it or try and get it off. In time it will go but for now its there to hold the cut together.

Ah, ok cool. Thanks!
And they might have told me before I got discharged but my memory of that day is very hazy.
