Question trying... - September 13th 2012, 03:15 AM

I've been a self harmer for 5 years. I've tried to quit many times before but have always went back. I was 4month clean when I self harmed again last night. The only person I've told was my boyfriend because he's the only person that understands why I do it and that I can't just stop(he used to self harm also, hes been clean for a year) I know he wants me to stop It kills me to know how bad I hurt him by cutting again and it triggers me to do it all over again. Any advice for trying to quit for good or a alternative method?

Well, you have probably heard a lot of suggestions like what I am going to say. Um, when you feel the urge keep your hands busy, read a book, go for a walk, get on the phone to a friend/boyfriend etc. keep strong, if you believe you can stop, you can do it

Jay.

One of the biggest things that got me to stop was art. Like she said above, using your hands is great. Whether you feel like your good at drawing or not, it can really distract you. I would always work on a painting or sketch something for a little bit and I'd get so trapped in it that I'd spend an hour on it and when I was done I'd feel accomplished and less scared. Things that you're passionate about will help.

I write to keep my hands busy Writing books, journals, just random typing to get out my emotions, sometimes constructively like poems. So find something you enjoy and start doing it, and training your mind into wanting to do what you love more than cutting
