Hi there,

I've moved your thread over to "Why Me?" because I think this is where it fits the best. If you have any questions, feel free to message me.

First of all, I'm sorry about your girlfriend breaking up with you. That is something really tough to deal with, but as they say, time heals all wounds. Focus on taking care of yourself during this really tough time, and over time it will get better.

For example, maybe you can reach out to friends and family about the breakup, or even speak to a guidance counselor or teacher. I bet that some of these people have been in similar situations or will at least have some input for you on how to help you move on.

If you don't get grounded or don't get grounded for long, find things to do to get you out of the house and doing things to keep your mind off your girlfriend. You can hang out with friends or other family, join a club, social group, or sports team, or even just go somewhere like to the movies. Even if you're grounded, try and find things you can do in your house, even if it's just movies or reading.

Practice self care, too, such as taking a nice shower then curling up with a good movie or book, or eating your favorite foods.

You can also try and talk to your mom about your cigarettes. I don't know if it will mean she won't ground you, but you can print out some pamphlets about cigarettes and explain that it is an addiction, not something that you can stop at the snap of your fingers. I do recommend you try to stop, but I can't force you.

Maybe you can try and show your mom that you're responsible or stay on her good side, and she'll consider shortening the punishment. For example, you can do extra chores around the house and be on your best behavior, or maybe even do nice gestures like offer to cook a meal. She may see that you're acting well and lessen the punishment.

The bad won't last forever.

Re: Life sucks again - December 5th 2013, 03:46 AM

Thanks for everything you said, but i guess you of course dont know my past. I have a history of cutting, but havent since meeting my ex (even before we dated). Shes kinda helped me move on. Shes made everything better. And this sudden random break up has really fucked me up. I thought i had finally moved on from the sadness and self harm, but now that shes gone and its hit me so hard, i feel like ive gone right back where i started before her. Im getting those feelings inside again...i havent cut, and im not sure if im gonna, but im just afraid of going back. Or even getting worse than i was before. Thats why i posted this originally under the self-harm category. Im afraid im gonna relapse after like 8 months or something like that.

Hi there,

Yeah, this is definitely something that can hit a person hard. It's excellent that so far you are trying your hardest not to self harm! Eight months is an amazing accomplishment but I bet you can go even farther.

Do you have anyone at all you can talk about this? I mentioned some people such as teachers and guidance counselors in my previous post. I bet some of them can at least help you cope better and maybe give you tactics you can use so you don't relapse.

I'll also give you this alternatives to self harm thread that has things to do rather than self harm. These are healthier, safer ways to cope, and since there are so many on there, there is bound to be at least one for you.

Do you have any friends or family members you can hang out with, or even call up? I'm not necessarily saying you have to tell them what's going on (though it's good to have support), it's just harder to self harm around other people.

Also find other ways to express your emotions such as writing, art, or music. Exercise is also a great way to get these feelings out. These are all healthy ways to get out any feelings you have without harming yourself.

You can do this!

-Dez
