Triggered by the dentist! - March 11th 2015, 02:56 AM

You can't avoid the dentist and I know it's only every four months but still. It has me triggered not only on self-harm but on my eating disorder too. Like the pain the hygienist was inflicting while cleaning my teeth hurt and it's like now I need to control the pain and when my self-harm is triggered my ED is triggered. I just don't know what to do. PLEASE DON'T suggest the alternative thread it stresses me out and makes me want to harm myself more

Don't lose who you are, in the blur of the stars
Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing,
It's okay not to be okay
Sometimes it's hard, to follow your heart
Tears don't mean you're losing, everybody's bruising,
Just be true to who you are

The dentist is such a pain! There's nothing like the dentist trying to keep a conversation with you while their hands are in your mouth.

A lot of times, they have things on the ceiling for you to look at so perhaps you can keep busy looking up. Consider bringing something to keep your hands busy, especially if you flinch easily when the dentist is working in your mouth. I also suggest bringing your iPod so you can listen to music. I did that while at the dentist's the last time and that was helpful. If those things don't help, think of a really happy memory and try to take yourself there. Remember everything having to do with your five senses and try to recreate that memory in your head.
