I'm scared this is going too far... - May 16th 2015, 06:34 AM

Today I cut myself, again. I'm running out of excuses. I've cut myself 4 times in the last 2 days when I started, and I think I'm becoming addicted. I started by saying I cut myself on a bush during paintball, then caught it on an edge at work, then that I got hit by a cat but I don't have an excuse for this one... it's really bad. I'm so scared, I'm so so so scared. Help me please

Okay, so it's really really good you want help with all this, and oddly enough that you are scared. That shows that a part of you doesn't want to do it. Is there anyone at all you can speak to with all this? If so, I really recommend speaking to them about it.

Have you tried any alternatives to cutting? If not, here's a list of alternatives for you. If one doesn't work for you, don't give up. http://www.teenhelp.org/forums/f12-s...ves-self-harm/

I'm here of you need someone to talk to

As the poster above said, it's great that you have come here and wish to seek help. If you have someone you could confide in about what you are going through - friends, family, a school official, counselor, etc. - that would be great, as these things are better dealt with when you have support rather than enduring them alone. Best wishes.

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out to us here at Teenhelp. I know that reaching out for help can be hard so it was a really brave thing to do. I hope we can help you in someway.

Self harm can become an addiction. I've been self harming for 11 years now and I'm slowly getting out of the cycle. But YOU have to break that cycle and it's going to take a lot of hard work and time too. But it is possible and you can do it as so can many others in the world and on Teenhelp.

Alternatives to self harm are a great thing to do. Walking, reading, running, painting, singing, creating music, watching a film, texting, writing, etc can all be helpful things to do and you can find a lot of idea's in our list of alternatives to self harm. But you have to remember that not everything out there is going to help for you so you're going to have to trial and error and find what helps you best. Sometimes that means trying something more than once too. Remember that because it can get frustrating.

Something I find that helps me is keeping a blog or a journal/diary because you can write about how you feel, what you're thinking about, urges etc and it can release a sense of relief to get them it all out you know? Or even find someone you trust to talk to about it all and explain all of this to them. I know talking can be hard but if there's something you can trust, it's definitely something I would encourage you to do. It's really helped me for sure.

I hope you find some comfort in knowing you aren't alone but remember to not be alone. We're all here for you and we want to be here for you, okay?

Stay safe,

"Only in the dark, can you see the stars..."
