Scars and Gym? - October 10th 2015, 12:57 AM

This thread has been labeled as triggering, particularly on the subject of self harm, by the original poster or by a Moderator. The contents of this thread might therefore not be suitable for certain sensitive users. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

So I found out a couple days ago that I will be having Gym class next semester. I have a lot of scars from my self-harm, mostly on my legs, hips, and stomach; but a few on my arms too. I have been away from self-harm for 10 days now, and hoping to continue, but my problem is that the scars will not fade by the next semester. We are required to change for Gym in a huge open space with all the other girls, and I'm very nervous about that. I would just use a shower stall, but our shower is a huge square with multiple shower heads coming out of the wall. We have no private space in the locker room. My foster mom has now found out about my cutting, but my problem is she says I just have to deal with the embarrassment and ridiculing I may get if people see. Does anybody have any suggestions on what to do so I can keep the scars hidden during the locker room? We are allowed to wear anything we want to gym itself, we don't have uniforms or anything. So I can wear long shorts/Capri pants during Gym. But we are required to shower and change into other clothes for Gym.

Really nobody is going to notice them. They are all worried about there own bodys they aren't going to be staring at yours. Also the locker rooms have bathrooms so you can change in a stall.

Don't lose who you are, in the blur of the stars
Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing,
It's okay not to be okay
Sometimes it's hard, to follow your heart
Tears don't mean you're losing, everybody's bruising,
Just be true to who you are

If your locker room has a bathroom, you can change in a stall like it's already been mentioned. I did that for a while. We weren't required to shower, but we were required to change. I sometimes put over sized sweatpants over my jeans and a sweatshirt over my shirt when I was struggling so no one could see. Eventually, I pulled my shirt down to cover my scars and I slipped my gym shorts on. I always wore a tank top so I could just put my gym shirt over that to avoid showing my stomach.

You said the room is open, but are you able to kind of turn around and change facing the wall? That might help. You could also consider trying to get to the locker room before or after everyone else so you can change without everyone around.

In the meantime, there are things you can do to fade your scars if you're interested in it. You could use lemon juice or vitamin E oil. You could also use something to exfoliate them to remove the dead skin cells. After doing that, use some lotion to move the cells around.
