hitting - January 17th 2010, 01:38 AM

i just wanna hit my self.....how do you stop?......mostly its the wall or with something....when i dont get how to do something or im mad or just feel bad....

I'm sorry that you feel like hurting yourself. Self harm is often used as a coping mechanism when you don't know how to handle other emotions. Have you looked at the Alternatives to Self Harm thread? There's some great suggestions in here instead of self harming. Try out some of them and see which work best for you. It's not an easy thing to stop, perhaps start with promising that you won't hurt yourself for half an hour, then review it after half an hour, perhaps tell yourself to go for another hour without it.
It's great that you're thinking about stopping! It takes a lot of courage to think about stopping.

yh rie pritty much said it all the alternaitive forum is good dont work for every1 tho best think think of somethin that makes u happy (ie i like to draw) so wen im struggling i draw it sometimes helps not always tho

I think wanting to cut yourself and hitting yourself is usually when you feel upset with yourself, or you don't like yourself, or you feel depressed and feel like hurting yourself, inflicting pain on yourself, will kill the pain but it won't. You're only hurting youself even more.
The way I stopped self-harming, was I convinced myself that I wouldn't solve anything or make anything better and there was no point in hurting myself, because I was already hurting enough and that wasn't going to make myself feel any better. Just keep telling yourself these things until you are completely in a mindset you never want to hurt yourself again.
