Other forms of distractions and hiding the scars? - November 21st 2010, 11:32 PM

I have a doctor's appointment in January. I have self injured for a while, mainly on my thighs. I don't want my doctor to know about what I have done to myself.
What are ways that you all know of to distract yourself that don't involve cutting, and what are some things (like cocoa butter) that fade the appearance of scars?

Hi,

First, I want to say welcome to TeenHelp!
I don't cover up my scars with anything, so I can't help out with that, but I'm sure someone here should be able to help you out with that.
About alternatives to cutting, there are many alternatives, actually, there is a list of Self Harm alternatives here in the Self Harm forum at www.teenhelp.org/alternatives In my oppinion, it is a great list and it is very helpful. I hope you check it out. If something doesn't work for you at first, try something else and you should find something useful. I use many alternatives, such as writing, reading, listening to music and doing things that I know I have to do and have been putting off, playing card games, cleaning my room, tearing paper and there are many more.
I know you don't want your doctor to see your scars, but maybe they can help you out with cutting? I mean, I was really scared and nervous and worried when my doctor found out that I had been cutting, but sense then, I have realized that it was a good thing that they know so that if I need helpw ith anything, such as ways to cover up the scars and help with quitting self harm, I can get the help I need from them. I now am getting the help I need to deal with my Self Harm because of my doctor and I was so worried about it at first. I can't decide this for you, so that's why I was just making a suggestion, just something to think about.
I hope I have been helpful in some way to you, let me know if I have, if you ever need anything, I'm always here, so you can send me a PM or VM and I'll be extremely happy to reply and help out as best as I can, or just for someone to chat with is okay to. Hope your enjoying the site and find everything okay.
