Unhappy Help? :( - April 22nd 2011, 03:03 PM

I've been of SH for about a month now, but something serious just happened, and i'm very, very tempted. I don't want to go back to it, but I don't know how to relieve the frusteration and sadness i'm feeling. any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hey there.

I want to start by saying that being over a whole entire month self harm free is absolutely amazing and is something you should be proud of yourself for!

I'm really sorry to hear that something serious has happened in your life right now and it had made it difficult for you to cope which has triggered you to have urge to self harm again. If you want to talk to us about whats going on for you right now you're more than welcome to and we will try and support you as much as we can.

For now I really want to encourage you to use alternatives to self harm. I know sometimes it can be really hard when we have urges to distract ourselves but it can actually really help us and is something I really want you to try to do. There are many different things to try so it's all about finding the ones which help you the most. Not everything will work for you and when you come across things which don't help you have to try and work past them and carry on trying new things to help you.

I hope this helps a little and I hope things start to look up.
Jessie.

Alternatives to self harming, easy peasy. Well, for some that is anyway. First of all try not to think of it so much, I think the main thing is people probably don't occupy themselves thoroughly enough to prevent themselves from self harming, and just occupy their thoughts on the negative side of life. I think the best thing is (which has worked for my in my depressed time, though I am not self harmer) is to listen to music, watch TV, play games, read a book, something you enjoy or occupies your thoughts.

I'm sure many of people here, including myself are also willing to talk to you to for company or what not, or for whatever reason you want.
