I need help, how do i ask for it? -
September 28th 2011, 11:51 PM
I've tried to stop, i couldn't, i tried to just do it less, i can't. I know that i need to stop cutting, but i dont know how to tell someone that i need help. I've had this problem before, and i think that it's going to take more than little blue pills to make me feel ok again, i think i need to go into serious treatment. How can i ask for help? It's not a matter of pride, it's that only one person knows, and i dont know if im ready for that to change. What if people at school find out? please, help me, i dont know what to do.
I know what its like to want to die; how it hurts to smile; how you try to fit in but you can't; how you hurt yourself on the outside; to try to kill
the thing that's in the inside. Even the people who never frown eventually breakdown. How can you understand me when I can't understand myself? It seems to me that the harder I try the harder I fall. |

Don't worry, I'm sure there are tons of people in your life who would be glad to help you if you would just let them in. It doesn't have to be a secret, the kind of pain you're in. And what you're going through is not so unusual, so don't worry about shocking anybody.
And who can you go to? The usual suspects are parents, school counselors, and doctors. Friends are good too, maybe the one person you've told could even come with you to help you talk to an adult who is more likely to be able to get you hooked in with more help. Maybe little blue pills (or purple? I tend to enjoy when things are purple) would help you a bit, and seeing a counselor/therapist/psychologist a few times a week on top of that would help you start to feel more in control of your life and your cutting and hurt less. There are lots of things that can help you. Why do you say you're not sure if you're ready for more than one person to know? What do you think you might get out of telling, and what parts of you feel its better to keep it secret? |

sorry, i wasnt very specific about that. or a lot of things... What i mean by one person is that my best friend knows, and he's trying to help me stop, but i tihnk that i need professional help now. The only things is, i've had this problem before and i was put on anti-depressants (little blue pills) and went to therapy, yet im still self-harming, which is why i said i think that i need more intensiv help, such as treatment.

This is part might be easy-
1. Make dr's appointment 2. Show up to dr's appointment 3. Say to doctor "I've been cutting myself again, and I don't feel safe, and I think I need help." That is a phrase they cannot ignore. Are you saying you want inpatient treatment, like in a hospital or a facility? Or something less than that, but more intensive than little blue pills and seeing a therapist here and there? Also keep in mind, there are lots of different types of meds, and though I say it jokingly, a different color pill may work better for you than the blue ones did. Same for therapy - there are many different types and different people do better with different styles. So I still think you can find a type of help that will work for you. |

Never be afraid to ask for help!
the doors are always open and there is no shame! pills are not usually the best thing, since many of them make it worse and it's better to seek help through talking to someone or helping yourself than taking medication. Think about your options. Do you have a family member(s) you can talk to? friend(s)? teachers(s)? counselor? there has to be someone and if you can, I recommend someone close to you! What about your sister? can she help? I understand that it is hard to get out of it, but it's like climbing a ladder, you climbed up, now you climb back down, you got into it and you can get yourself out. Maybe whatever you are using for cutting should be thrown away? wear something over the spot where you cut so you can't and try not to since it's covered. Little things like this can help you while you search for help! The most important thing you can do is help yourself and be strong! Don't listen to or create negative thoughts! Work on bettering yourself and your life! I am here if you need to talk -Nicole
