I've been self harming for quite a while i don't like hurting myself but when things get too much i can't help it, it's like i have no control and i get so angry and the only way i feel i can express this is by hurting myself.
It started off by me hitting my pillow ut then i felt that wasn't enough and started bitting myself and hitting myself but now its moved up to me cutting my left wrist and forearm with a knife drawing blood sometimes ![]() Both my parents, my grandma and my bestest bestest friend know and i am going to see a cousilor at school this week. But i don't think i will be able to stop and im so scared  i dont want big ugly scars going up my arm ![]() please help! Livvy

Hey Olivia
Recovering from Self Harm is a slow process. And you have already taken a step towards it by making this thread. So cheers! ![]() What is making you so angry that you feel the need to SH? Finding your trigger is very important as it can help you be prepared and control yourself the next time you feel like SHing. Try to use these alternatives to distract yourself when you feel like doing it again. Every alternative may not work for you and you might have to try a number of alternatives to find one that works for you. It is great that your family knows about this. Are they supportive? And good luck with the counselor! A professional can help you figure out a lot of thing and get better. It is awesome that people around you know and that you are going to see a professional. These are some really important steps that you have taken to stop harming yourself. I am proud of you. If you need someone to talk to PM/VM me anytime. ![]() Stay strong<3 Spread "Jaadu ki Jhhappis" - The Magic Hugs![]() Buddy - 28th January 2012 HelpLINK Mentor - 20th March 2012 Why Me? Hi there!
I'm sorry to hear that you're having such a tough time. But I'll try my best to help you out. ![]() Self harming is not very good. As you mentioned, it does cause scars. And I see that you really want it to stop. That's a good thing. That will help with your determination to try something else to help you stop. Sometimes, cutting and hurting isn't the only way we can express our pain or sadness. Have you tried to use some other method of expressing it? Say for example, you could write about what you're feelings, or draw? I'm also giving you a link, which provides alternatives to cutting and self harming in general: http://www.teenhelp.org/forums/f12-s...ves-self-harm/ It's a good thing to go to a counsellor about this. They are around to help you, no hurt you. They are professionals and they know what they're doing. Go to them with an open mind. Don't keep telling yourself it won't help, because when we keep saying that, we won't be able to take the help that they are giving. Give it a shot. And ask your parents and friends to help you out with this. On very many occasions physical activity suppresses the need to self harm. So running or jumping, helps control the need to harm. I hope this helped a bit. If you want to talk more, you can send me a message any time! Take care! ~Through the wind and the rain She stands hard as a stone In a world that she can't rise above But her dreams give her wings And she flies to a place where she's loved. Concrete Angel. If you ever need to talk, I'm here for you! My PM box is always open! (: Make no mistake, every prayer you pray gets answered. Even though, sometimes, the answer, is no. . . ![]() HelpLINK Mentor - 2.4.2011 LiveHelp Operator - 18.6.2011 |

I'm going to make this short, sweet, and simple because the advice given above is 100% awesome.
The attitude of "I can't stop" will NEVER get you to stop. Just saying. Quitting begins with belief in yourself, and not from anywhere else. ![]() Take me seriously. I dare you. |

Hi there.
Firstly I think it's great you have come to us here for some help, as well as your family being aware and you seeking help by seeing your school counselor. Getting professional help for a lot of people can be really beneficial. You'll have someone to talk to about what's making you feel so bad that you feel you need to hurt yourself and hopfully go on to see those things in a more positive view so that it doesn't make you feel so bad. It may also help you learn distractions and help you to know when you're starting to feel bad so before you get to the point where you feel 'out of control' you can realise and do something to help you stop yourself from self harming. I do agree with Marissa. You saying 'I can't' is going to get you no where. Positive self talk can be really helpful so turn them in to 'I cans' because you can. Ultimately you're in control of your own actions and at the end of the day the only person who can stop you from self harming is yourself, no one else. People can help you and be there the the majority of the work has to come from you. That in the future sessions with your new counselor, she may go through distractions and how to deal with it but what you do in those sessions isn't going to play such a big part on your recovery. You're going to have spend you days using what people advise and suggest to you and taking it in to action to help you get through this. I know it's really hard but keep at it, let people in when you need the, work with them and do these things to help yourself and you'll get there. Recovery is possible. Take good care of yourself, Jessie 'You don't always have to be positive, but you need to put things into perspective.' - 17/5/12 Selfharmforummod| MentalHealthforummodlHelpLinkmentor|Blogmod|LiveHelpoperator|Depressionandsuicideforummod |
