Healthier choice? - August 10th 2018, 04:23 AM

Hi, I haven't posted in a while and thought I might post something here. I have a coke addiction. Not cocaine but Coca-Cola. I've been drinking some everyday but my foster mom won't let me drink the coke in the fridge anymore. So I've been walking to the store to get it. I know I'm wasting money and I was t to stop. Anyone have a healthier thing to get addicted to?

no but seriously, you can either quit cold turkey or gradually wean yourself off of it by going to "healthier" drinks. for example, go from coke to diet coke, then to sparkling water, then try alternating sparkling water and regular water.
i gave up soda a few years ago, but i still crave that carbonation sometimes, so sparkling water has been a lifesaver in that area.

the best part about quitting soda is that it tastes so much better when it's just a treat for a special occasion, instead of an every day drink. another good thing is that once you get through the first week, you will learn that you can live perfectly fine without it, and the urge to drink it will die down a LOT.

something else you could do to motivate you to stop wasting money on coke is every time you want to walk down to the store and buy some, put the money you would've spent on it in a jar instead. then you could choose something like once you save up a certain amount of money, you can buy yourself something really nice, or something like that.

good luck! i'm glad you realize that this is an unhealthy habit, that's the first step to quitting it! think about how happy your future self will be that you made the decision to stop. your teeth will be cleaner, your body will be healthier, and your wallet will thank you!

I know the obvious anwser is Diet Coke but not every place serves Diet Coke.

Prehaps try lowering the intake. Downgrade from a large to medium, then to a small. Or buy two cans and hide your money from yourself. Convince yourself that the two cans is for the entire week and slowly downgrade to two weeks and then a month.

I just went cold turkey on Root Beer myself, but that methood doesn't work for everyone.

I know someone who was exactly like this. I don't know whether it was due to the caffeine in it or something else, but they would drink several bottles of it every week, and let me tell you, their teeth certainly weren't great because of it; so let that be motivation for you - think of your teeth.

Unless you're extremely good with your oral hygiene, the amount of sugar you're blasting your teeth with is going to be shocking. Not to mention that a fair amount of people think they have a great oral hygiene routine which turns out they've stripped a good portion of enamel off their teeth and end up with at least one cavity.

While you won't think much of it when you're young, a few years down the line you'll come to regret drinking it so much.

Unfortunately I can't really advise you on a replacement addiction as additions aren't commonly healthy, but I would consider thinking about the negative effects of drinking so much coke.
