Inspired by something shocking I accidentally came across recently - November 18th 2010, 02:45 AM

During the weekend, I had inadvertently came across a webpage which was prostituting a 16-year-old girl in my local area, and immediately I went to the police department and reported it. Right now I still don't know what was more terrifying, the fact that the page existed, or the fact that said page has supposedly been online for months.

This discovery really shocked me, but at the same time it has made me feel like I should go about trying to help other people that are also being exploited against their will like this and in other ways. But what I don't know is what can I do? Are there any ideas for different kinds of ways I can help?

Child sex trade. Sadly, it seems people hear about this in passing but don't want to get educated on it. I can understand some reasons but also some education on it could help. As far as helping I would continue to be aware of what's out there. It can happen anywhere. I discovered this "trade" about five years ago and have been researching it a lot. Recently there were 50+ kids rescued and 99 people were arrested. That's awesome! It can happen anywhere at any time. Good job on reporting it. I hope it was more than just one they found because that's innocent lives that are being taken.

I did some research recently and I have come up a few ideas, I have no clue how I developed some of them especially considering how radical they appear to be.

1) Teenaged so-called "barely legal" porn stars, from my impression they are just everyday girls looking for a money or looney fun, but get stuck, I believe that most of the time they are actually being kept from society against their will and being made into voyeur sex slaves. I can't imagine any girl around our age willingly subjecting themselves constantly to unprotected sex with random middle aged men for the purpose of being famous for it. My plan - use a made-up alias to find out where these sex videos are being taped, and either obtain-entry or sneak in and help girls escape to safety and care (like Harbor House), and/or report/relay information to police to coordinate a raid.

2) Girls putting themselves at risk, putting/trashing their future thinking that the sex life is a dream life. When I went to public high school, there was a girl with good looks but lousy grades who bragged about how much she didn't care and that she wanted to be a porn star. I was shocked when in my 9th grade Spanish class this girl asked me to be her boyfriend and have sex with her that night (she was 18 and I was 15, in response I lashed out at her in front of the entire class by calling her a w[censored] and a slut). There was also another trio bragging all the time about how many guys they've had sex with.

Remember the news of the Green River Killer, killing 48 victims over two decades, a majority of them, teenage girls, several who were also prostituting themselves or seeking sex? My ideas about addressing it are:
a. On sites where girls are clearly prostituting themselves/posting themselves as "escorts", arranging to meet using a made-up alias, coordinated on my end with a police officer/investigator. Basically, undercover stings which get them off the street and get them help/therapy they need.
b. Girls posting themselves on "adult" dating sites seeking sex, it is staggering how many in our age groups are doing this right now. Plan would be to try to use a made-up alias and arrange a meet up in a public place, reason with them, befriend them, arrange therapy, end result being improving lives and getting them out of the bad habits.
c. Go to schools, coordinate with administrators to counsel with troubled boys and girls, teenager to teenager. Something I noticed from documents, news stories, or even witnessing instances myself, is that when confronted with counseling from an adult, people tend to show a feeling of degradation when someone older seems to be talking down on them, they end up showing less desire to cooperate because they do not feel understood. One of the things that makes this website successful, direct understanding with benefit of age correlation, would probably apply in the real-world situation if these people were able to talk to someone their own age who would take the time to understand their emotions. I think this one is the most realistic.

Thoughts on my ideas appreciated or if anyone has more better ideas please post. Honestly though I think with exception of the last one these would be too risky to follow through on, but any idea is better than none.

BTW the page I reported to the police is still up. I'm going back tomorrow.

I'm going to definitely have to agree with these sounding dangerous. I think the best thing you can do is report anything you happen to come across, but don't go looking for trouble.

If you really want to be proactive in this, I think the best and the safest thing you can do would be to educate people. Find organizations that are helping fight child pornography/sex trade and get involved. Educations is key to changing things.

Here is just one organization that is out there. I'm sure google can help you find many more.

Good luck! I think it's great that you want to help
