Lithium - July 1st 2012, 06:31 PM

I'm waiting for an appointment to see a psychiatrist (hopefully it will be some time this week). My current diagnosis is depression and borderline personality disorder. I've been tried on 6 different antidepressants (SSRI's, SNRI's, and tricyclics, I have also tried seroquel. So far nothing has worked and my depression is terrible. I'm currently off work because of it. I've been reading up on different treatments for depression so that I can ask the psychiatrist about them and know a bit more about what's available. I saw that in some cases where antidepressants havent worked, lithium can help. Just wondering if anyone has been on lithium for depression and if it helped?

Well, Lithium is a mood stabilizer, and sometimes mood stabilizers are used for treatment-resistant Depression. Have you tried Abilify? It's another medication used for treatment-resistant depression.

No, I haven't heard of it, but I'll do some research, thanks.

Hmm, I've heard of it being used for bipolar disorder. But yes, it would make sense for depression, I mean, bipolar disorder used to be called manic-depressive disorder.
