Losing interest? - September 29th 2012, 04:07 AM

Recently, I have been losing interest in the things I like. I don't know why. It is especially happening with my drama class. I used to look forward to going everyday. Now I don't really want to. I used to look forward to after school and weekend rehearsals. Now, I dread going. I have no idea why. I love the musical we are doing. I love the part I have in the chorus. But for some odd reason, I'm just not as interested in it as I was before. Also, I love to paint my nails, but I don't do that anymore. I love to paint and draw, but I don't. I'd say my life is pretty okay. I don't have any issues (except for grades, but that doesn't have to do with me losing interest. At least I think it doesn't.)

Am I getting bored with my life? What is happening? Theatre and drama is one of the only things I truly love in this life. And I'd be lost if I ever, ever lost interest in it and stopped.

All I want to do is just sit in my bed and stare at the ceiling. Why is that happening??

How long have you been feeling this way? It's pretty common for people to go through "phases" where they feel less motivated/passionate/energized/etc. about school, work, their relationships, and their hobbies/interests. If this has only been happening for a few days or weeks, I'd give it time. If this has been going on for a few months, it might not be a bad idea to see your doctor, and ask if a referral to a psychological professional would be appropriate. Mood disorders like depression generally affect multiple areas of your life, so I'd be cautious about jumping straight to a diagnosis when this could just be a "phase." Hormonal imbalances could also account for the shift in mood, which is why I would suggest seeing your regular doctor first.
