Alright, I think I may need help here - November 15th 2012, 11:07 PM

First of all, I'd like to say hello! I'm back after quite a few months away from here, nice to be back.

Alright so I'll try and explain this as best I can so you can help me..

I'm an 18 year old male.

When I'm around my friends, I'm not quiet at all, if anything I'm loud and the life and soul of the party, I'm always cracking jokes and being the centre of attention, but a few months ago I started college, and now I've started a new job, as soon as I walk through the doors, my voice is quiet I can't think of anything to say to anyone, I can't make eye contact and I'm too nervous to ask for help if I need it or to talk to any of the other staff. When I walk into the staff room and they're all standing there, I get so hot and I feel disgusting I feel like I look horrible, I feel like I'm going to explode, I HATE it.

I'm too nervous to even tell my boss that I was underplayed last week because I don't want to engage in conversation

Secondly, this part is even worse.. It's very hard to explain but like sometimes I can be doing the most general activity such as making a sandwich or whatever and say I'm placing ham on the bread and It doesn't look right or something I just get so hot and frustrated and I just flip I get so angry same thing happens with endless things like if my dog walks infront of me or if I press the wrong button on my keyboard it gets me so worked up and I just flip

What's should I do to help? Or is this normal behaviour?

Thank you

hello there,

I aologise for tha fact that nobody has replied yet. So, I'll give it a go

Okay, considering this is unsual behaviour for you, I can sort of see why. New surroundings often confuses or changes you. I'll give you a personal experience, at y old school I was popular, I was fun to be around, when I went into year 7 I moved across state and went to a new school. I becase awkward, a person who listens more than speaks. When I'm in class I used to put my answers out even if I'm confused about what we say because I wanted to do better and my ideas could be changed and reviewed and yeah, it would help e grow in my knowledge, at my school now I practically murmur my answers.

You just need to grow comfortable again. Get used to being in the surroundings.

Jay.

Hi,
If you are totally social when you are surrounded by people you know, I wouldn't worry too much. Most of us find it hard to be ourselves and be social with people we still don't know, or that out of our trust circle. Give yourself time, and try to be yourself, don't get stressed because of it, because as you know these people better, it would be easier to engage into a conversation and normalize the relationship.

Regarding the sandwich stuff, when that happens to you, take some time to think what you feel and pay attention to the thoughts in your head. Identify those feelings and thoughts and rationalize them, see if they have a real basis or it is your mind distorting reality, if you have any reason to freak out just because something is not in a certain order...

Hope it helped!
