Terrible memory - November 17th 2014, 05:14 PM

I have a really bad memory and it's starting to concern me slightly. I've always been this way but I think I'm getting slightly worse. I just find it next to impossible to concentrate on something I'm not completely interested in. Even if I am interested in it I kind of zone off after a bit. I'm crap at taking exams because of this. I wouldn't call myself stupid exactly but my memory does let me down a lot.

I also misplace a lot of things and forget to take my medication (anti-depressants) at times. I always seem to misplace my glasses, which I really need, my vision is awful without them.

I have generalised anxiety disorder and sometimes think that contributes to my poor memory. I'm starting to think I have A.D.D. or something too :/

Hi there,

How long have you been feeling like this, worse?

I was never diagnosed with anything, but for most of this year, I felt the same. I couldnít concentrate on anything. I had to read for uni, but I could never remember, and I couldnít concentrate either. I had to write essays too and nearly failed, because I just couldnít do it. I got confused watching TV and couldnít remember what my friend had been telling meÖ.just a few hours later after the conversation. And for misplacing things, I tried to put the jar of sugar in the fridge. I was scared too, as I had never had this before, and it lasted for about 6 months?

I realised afterwards, that this could just be depression. I also have symptoms of anxiety and before this happened, I had been very anxious, so that is definitely a factor.

I think perhaps you should keep a diary of how you feel and how many times you misplace items, or forget things etc., and then maybe after a while, go back to the doctors for a review.

Take care

Re: Terrible memory - November 17th 2014, 07:53 PM

About 2-3 years. I revised quite a lot for my AS exam last year and still had an E :/ I had flash cards, wrote revision notes and watched youtube videos on AS Psychology and little sank in. I understood it but just couldn't memorise it. My anxiety has gotten progressively worse over the past few years too so maybe it is the problem.
