Diagnostics - October 31st 2018, 03:04 PM

I know I haven't been online in some time, and I'm okay enough to post and I'm fixing to get back from my staff on leave. Anyways, I have been diagnosed with bipolar 2, major depressive disorder, anxiety, a minor eating disorder, and cluster b (it is the closest thing to a personality disorder a minor can be diagnosed with). Anyways, I was admitted into a psyche hospital and was discharged on Monday.

I don't know how to feel with the cluster b, or having major depression, but I'm going to try to work on coping skills and am now going to counseling to try to find myself.

I know I can't say much without being a hypocrite as I don't have an official diagnosis, but remember that you are more than your diagnosis.

I like to think of getting diagnosed as a sort of triage for mental health in order to access the support and treatment that you need. You aren't defined by it. Though I do understand that when you are diagnosed with something, it can sometimes be difficult to accept. I also understand that there can be a bit of stigma around certain diagnosis but this stigma often comes from people who aren't as informed, or are judging people based on past experiences with other people with the same diagnosis.

It's okay to accept yourself as you are, and that you struggle with certain things, and to work on recovery. We can often feel that we don't know ourselves when our life seems to revolve around around our struggles, but therapy can definitely help you to explore yourself more

Thanks for that Holly. I really appreciate it. I'm actually going to see my doctor today in the next hour or so to see if the doctor can up my dosage of the current meds I am taking. I'll fill you in on what he says.

I think one thing to remember is that the diagnosis only puts a name to what you have already been experiencing. It doesn't change who you are. You're still the same amazing Aiyannah that you were before a name was put to your symptoms. Which brings another thing, you are not your symptoms. Who you are as a person and the symptoms you have are separate things.

Having a specific diagnosis can be really helpful in figuring out what treatments might be best for you. It can give the therapist a better idea of where to start and if you take medication it will help the doctor know what medications to try first. I understand how hard it can be to accept a diagnosis, but there's so much more to you than the things you struggle with. None of those diagnoses make you a bad person or any less of a person than you were before.

I hope therapy helps you learn about yourself, how to cope, and how to accept who you are.

“There is nothing beautiful about the wreckage of a human being.
There is nothing pretty about damage, about pain, about heartache.
What is beautiful is their strength, their resilience, their fortitude
as they display an ocean of courage when they pick through the
wreckage of their life to build something beautiful brand new,
against every odd that is stacked against them.” — Nikita Gill

Be strong - believe in the best and everything will be like that. After all, we attract to ourselves what we are thinking about!
