Split personalities o.O - September 16th 2009, 09:36 PM

OK first before you answer my question, considering what you've seen of me, do I strike you as mature? Have an answer? Read on VVVVV

Ok, now. When online I'm much more mature, or so people say.
In RL I'm much less so, and very jokey.
I find it easier to communicate over internet.
Is this split personality, or what is it?

No, this is not "split personality". It's a result of a different means of communication and communicating to a different population that has a different environment.

This is definately not Dissociative Identity Disorder. I think that it is perfectly normal to feel this way.

With your friends, you know them very well and so can make jokes / have a laugh without offending them and you can have a good time. Over the Internet you can never really know anybody properly. You are probably more mature because you don't want to offend them. On TeenHelp for example, it's a more serious place then out on the streets with your friends, so I guess situation has a place as well!

Hi Matthew,

As others have said, it's highly unlikely that this means that you have Dissociative Identity Disorder. A lot of people do act differently online than they do offline for some of the reasons that have already been mentioned. It is also hard to be perceived as you are offline when you're on the internet anyway as people can't always tell your emotions/tone/expressions over the internet. Some people are more comfortable with being themselves online and some people are more comfortable online. The people who you're communicating with and the situations are different too. Try not to let this bother you too much, Matthew - It is not unusual.

Take care.
