Bipolar? - November 26th 2009, 07:43 PM

I've been diagnosed with depression and recenty my psychiatrist mentioned that he was concerned as I was showing some signs of having manic episodes. I think hes right, but they dont last long, usually only a couple of days at the most.
I'm starting to scare myself. I knocked a guy out last night. He was drinking my drinks so we were messing about hitting each others arms and stuff and I couldn't stop myself. I punched him in the head. He was only out for a few seconds, but I feel awful now. Before I've been known to ask people to punch me in the face because it seems like fun at the time. I even threw a knife at my ex boyfriend a couple of years ago (not wanting to stab him, I just wanted him to go away. It didn't hit him).
Most of the time though I'm very depressed. I've attempted suicide 3 times in the last 6 months. I'm really scared of what I might do next.
I know you guys cant diagnose me, but does this sound like bipolar? or am I just a bitch? I really should talk to my psychiatrist or councellor about this but my next appointment with the psych is in january and my councellor cancelled our appointment last week and said shed phone me to rearrange, but she hasnt, so I don't know if I'll see her again.

I am bipolar, myself. No, I can't diagnose you, but I can identify with you. I went about 2 years before I got a diagnosis, I understand your fear and anger. Are you on any medications? If your therapist/counselor hasn't called you back, you need to call them. Bipolar disorder, untreated, is ALWAYS going to be a problem. You need to actively seek treatment. Call your regular doctor, and ask if there's anyway you can schedule an appointment sooner than january.

Are there any things that calm you down? When I'm having a manic episode, it's always good to have someone with me. I'm prone to episodes of psychosis, so who knows what I might do. If you're afraid you're manic, phone a close friend, and ask them to stay with you for a little while. At least be on the phone with someone.

But get help. You sound bipolar to me, but I'm not a doctor. Hope I helped :/
