Writing a paper on bipolar disorder. - March 2nd 2010, 10:03 AM

I'm answering the question, "How can I stabilize my life and function in society as a bipolar teenager?" for a paper for English. I'm wondering if anyone has some good sources I can use for my paper. I'd put this in the school section, but I think I'd get better responses here from people who deal with mental/emotional problems and actually may have done some research on this sort of stuff. Any links, books, movies, TV documentaries, etc. would be appreciated!

Well... This website http://www.bpkids.org/ has various articles on the subject. And this part http://www.bpkids.org/flipswitch specifically deals with teens and early 20's dealing with Bipolar.

Uhm, I don't know what else to tell you, except maybe put out some interview questions, perhaps? Then members here with Bipolar can answer questions that you need the answers for to give you a general idea?

I think interviewing a doctor would be your best bet to getting information.

I already plan on the interview... I especially need print sources because I can only have 4 internet sources and I need 10 total.

Maybe look for these books in a library?

If you have journal access through something such as Scopus, PsychINFO, PubMed, etc..., then that's the easiest way to get empirical research. If not, then Google scholar is your next best bet but more often than not, you're likely to get only abstracts. If you can, try Google's online books. Alternatively, if possible, ignore the local library and instead go to a college or university library. There you can physically look through the empirical research and get some amazing books on bipolar disorder from every paradigm conceivable without having to pay for any books.

In my research papers, I either use current textbooks I have from past courses, look through books at the library and lots and lots of online empirical studies.
