My friend has told me tonight that he was currently diagnosed with major depressive disorder. He also told me that he has been hearing two voices which are telling him to kill himself. I always knew that he had issues with depression, but never knew that it was this bad. His parents know, and he told me that he has scheduled doctor appointments each week. I'm just wondering how I should go about helping him. He has confronted me with these problems, so he obviously wants a friend to help him through it. I'm just not always sure what to say.

I think all you can really do is just be there for him. Let him know you're there for him and be a friend like you are already. Honestly, I don't think people can do much more than that. I wish my friends would give me a hug sometimes. Hugs always go down well P:
I don't know how much you know already about depression and so on, but researching it and getting some idea of what he's going through might help you, too.

It'll be difficult, but in the long run, he'll appreciate the fact that you're being there and being so thoughtful through this.

I've only told a couple of my friends about my depression and anxiety issues. They honestly had no idea what to do or say. They still don't.
You're a really wonderful friend for caring and asking these questions. I honestly wish my friends would. I just wanted to say that, anyway
