Hearing a voice :/ - November 4th 2010, 05:37 PM

Today, I was home sick. I wasn't really that sick, just exhausted from a karate grading the night before and lack of sleep. I kept on waking up throughout my sleep, this morning. I woke up about five times between 8:30 and 13:30. This is quite normal, as I had woken up earlier for school, but didn't go in the end.

One time, the first or second time I woke up, something very strange happened. I felt this sickening feeling throughout my body as I woke up (I was definitely awake, I know that, I have proof, but that isn't relevant to the story) I was shivering, but shaking and quivering, I couldn't stop it, I can't explain it. I can't remember exactly what it said, but I heard this voice, calling to me, a high, castrated kind of voice, it was telling me things, it always called me "baby", but not in a "I love you, baby" way, but calling me a baby. It was speaking very loudly and I was shaking, I couldn't stop. My whole body was quivering, all I can remember was that the words were very threatening, and as soon as it stopped speaking, I thought to myself, "This is my new Mr Fire-Escape Man."

I know what happened, and I know that I was awake.

Well, you said you were exhausted. And if your brain is too tired, you can start having auditory and visual hallucinations.

Maybe you just need to make sure you sleep properly, before over-thinking it and assuming its worse than it may be.

But I'm always exhausted and it never happened before. Well, not as strongly and I wasn't tired at all when a similar thing last happened.
You may be right, I'm probably wrong. Still scares me just the same, because "Mr Fire-Escape Man" was the reason I tried to kill myself, and I can imagine that happening again. :/

If this is something that has happened a lot in the past, then I would suggest going to the doctor. Don't worry, they won't think you are crazy. I know it's a weird thing to talk about, but if you go to a doctor about it they can probably get you on some medicine to try to help you with it. And they could probably refer you to a therapist that you could talk to about it.
In the meantime, just keep reminding yourself that the voice isn't real and that you shouldn't listen to it. It can't hurt you.

Thanks for the advice I'll talk to my counsellor about it, see what he says.
I keep on shaking, but I don't think that it's low blood sugar shaking, it feels different, more like anxiety.

You could try some breathing exercises or something, to help you calm down. Maybe that could help with the shaking?
I'm glad you're going to talk to your counselor about it!
Hang in there, and if you ever need to talk, feel free to vm/pm me!!

Re: Hearing a voice :/ - November 6th 2010, 05:54 AM

Given that you were shaking and felt very anxious, could it have been a panic attack? The voice could have come from this and you being exhausted. Since you had a previous experience with this, it could have been you were very worried and jumped to a conclusion while over-thinking the situation. This isn't to say that you didn't experience it because it's obvious you did but it may be due to something else. I assume you have a therapist or counsellor you saw last time this happened since you tried to commit suicide.

I'm curious about the name, "Mr Fire-Escape Man". Was there a fire or something similar where you were called "baby" in the process or why do you call this voice by this name?

I can rip you off, and steal all your cash, suckerpunch you in the face, stand back and laugh. Leave you stranded as fast as a heart-attack.

Re: Hearing a voice :/ - November 8th 2010, 09:41 PM

Mr Fire-Escape Man was a man who I made up (I thought that he was real), I heard him, saw him, he made me cut myself in certain ways, punished me, controlled me, and drove me to "madness".

I was in a fire when I was 9 and considered a baby. That is probably to do with it.
Don't hesitate if you want more details
