S.A.D - October 24th 2011, 12:50 AM

Wasn't sure whether to put this here or in the depression section so I'll let the mods decide.

Okay, so I'm probably going to speak to the student counsellors about this in the next week but this isn't the first time I've felt like I might have this.

For at least the past 4 years I've always felt depressed from September to March time. At first I thought it was just random but then after last year I realised I do feel worse around this time of year and it gradually gets worse around December time.

I'm not really sure what I'm hoping for writing this thread, just people to talk to about it I guess and advice on coping with depressive moods this year since it's a lot harder for me to cope with things due to living on my own now and not really having many people to talk to yet.

Hey there Cara

About a year ago my mother thought I might have this. She did some research and they actually make a light that can help bring up your mood if you do have S.A.D. She said they would turn on the light for about an hour in the morning while getting ready and the extra light helps fight depression. I'm not sure if you have Costco where you are, but I think they sell them.

Bright light therapy can be used to treat Seasonal Affective Disorder. I'd get a referral to a psychological professional first, so you can be assessed and receive a diagnosis. If they think the bright light therapy may help improve your symptoms, give it a shot! What do you have to lose? =)
