New psychiatrist. -
November 15th 2011, 12:20 AM
My psychiatrist of 3 years moved to another state and left me in the cold.
Just kidding, I really do understand why she left. But she had me set up an appointment with one of her colleagues. It's tomorrow. I'm really nervous. What do I do? What do I say? Do I tell her everything all at once?

Just get to know each other. She will probably already know everything from your other psychiatrist. She may ask you some questions about yourself. Don't be nervous. She is there to help. Have fun!

something similar has happened to me also, i was seeing a counselor and i was having a really hard time, and she decided to retire.
but after it was done w/ i felt alot better and was happy and got out and did stuff. you could have the rellapse effect for not going to therapy for a while. i stopped going in summer2010, but im not back to going to it, cause i have high anxiety. but i say dont stress to much about a new counselor, they could be alot more helpful. & everything is confidential, so dont over worry it all. i wish you the best of luck. xoxo -Jaimey |

Like a previous poster said, I'm sure she already knows a bit of your history. It's similar to a doctor transferring medical history when you change to a new one. Your old psychiatrist couldn't let the new one walk in blind; it would put both of you at a disadvantage. That being said, tell her as much or as little as you feel comfortable. It might take time before you feel as comfortable with him/her as you did with your old psychiatrist. Focus on building up that relationship. Things will become more natural as time goes on.
Take care, Sammi. |
