Sometimes I just don't know why I do these things -
January 12th 2012, 06:47 AM
I just make the same mistakes over and over, again and again. It's like I never learn. I look back on my actions and think, "Why did I do that? That was a horrible decision", but at the time it seems like a great idea. Then it happens over and over. Sometimes I feel like I'm not controlling my actions.
Every night I start my homework at like 1 am and I know I need to stop, but I've given up on that. I know it's wrong but I never fix it. I started writing a paper at 3 am one time. There was no chance I could finish in time but I thought I could. Well, now I have a D in that class. It's 3 am and I'm doing a project I've known about for months. I've never not studied for a test any day but the night before. I end up sobbing and exhausted every time, but I never stop. I made a really stupid decision and am now in danger of failing science. A few weeks ago I got so upset at school that I yelled at my friend, screamed then started crying. I feel like I have no control. |

Is it just procrastinating or are there other things that you do? Everybody procrastinates, but there are ways to manage things better so you don't end up pulling all nighters every time because that will eventually catch up with you. Try telling yourself that a paper or project is due earlier than it actually is so that you finish early and don't have to rush through it. Or break things down into smaller pieces, instead of writing a whole paper in one night resolve to write one page a night from the day it's assigned or the day you can start until you're done, chances are you'll have at least a little bit of time left to take a break and then go back and proofread. Studying for tests can work the same way, take 20 minutes to look over your notes or the book as you go then you don't have to cram.
Another good idea that I learned from my behavior mod class is to set up a reward for yourself, something you want to watch or to do. Set it up so that you have to do what you need before you allow yourself to do what you want. The trick with that, though, is that if you don't follow through, don't reward yourself anyway. |
