Psychotherapy - January 30th 2012, 07:34 PM

finally got a place for psychotherapy, to help me deal with the depression that ive been going through for the past few years.. it's based on dealing with my relationships with people, anger problems, body dissatisfaction n all that stuff :/
i was just wondering what to expect from it? has anybody else been for psychotherapy and how did it work out for you? x

Basically, you guys will probably just talk about how you've been feeling and trying to get to the root of the problem. Occasionally, the therapist might "play games," or whatever, but that's usually for younger patients...it really depends on who you see. Also, if the therapist feels like you need medications, they will set an appointment with an actual psychitrist for that.

It's really not that big of deal and it will probably help. Sometimes it takes a while to find the right person, but once you do, I think you'll see changes in in your life. At least that's how it worked for me!

Best of luck!

Hi there.

I'm glad you've finally gotten the help and I hope that it works for you and you find it helpful. In all honesty I don't know an awful lot but this intrested me because it's something I might be starting for Trauma therapy. I do know that in psychotherapy they can do things such as CBT, DBT and EMDR.

From doing research just now I've found that some psychotherapy teams also offer things such as art therapy, Hypno-psychotherapy, body psychotherapy, DMT (Dancing), Family therapy, Group analysis, Person-centred counselling, Psychodynamic psychotherapy, Relationship counselling, Transpersonal psychotherapy and a few others. Maybe you could look in to these so you can go in with a clear mind and know what you want to work on.

I hope this helps in some way. And I hope that everything starts to fall in to place for you.

Jessie
