Dietician. - November 20th 2014, 09:44 PM

I'm going to be seeing a dietician soon about getting on a meal plan and everything. I'm absolutely terrified of telling them how much I'm eating or on some days how little I am eating. I also don't want them to make me eat huge portions all the time (like I had to in treatment). They may be normal portion sizes, but they seem huge to me. They just didn't seem like they were normal portions. Anyway. I'm not really sure what I'm getting at. I suppose just some reassurance about seeing a dietician. Any advice is welcome.

There is nothing pretty about damage, about pain, about heartache.
What is beautiful is their strength, their resilience, their fortitude
as they display an ocean of courage when they pick through the
wreckage of their life to build something beautiful brand new,
against every odd that is stacked against them.” — Nikita Gill

You're getting help. Awesome.

Sorry, that was creepy. It's late. Anywhoo, I can't really advise either way other than tell you about the dietitian I had. Context: it was when I was undergoing therapy at a specialist unit, but I was an outpatient. The dietitian also came to my house, and I then later saw her at the clinic. Thing. Anyway, mine was largely focussed on healthy eating (which I found triggering, I like chocolate! Don't tell me I can only have it once a day! *cue huffy Laura in a corner). Portion sizes, etc, weren't specified which was confusing but mine didn't want to get wrapped up on numbers and was more focused on a natural "eat to your bodily cues" kind of thing, which doesn't make too much sense when listening to your hunger isn't exactly your forte xD She asked largely for my input, which I sucked at, quite frankly, since I wasn't well and I ended up with loads of fruit on my meal plan. I don't even like fruit. And then she gave me the sheet, told me to stick to it, and whizzed off. Then checked on me around a month later, modified meal times and stuff. Wasn't too scary. Basically is just a discussion around food, portion sizes, and she checks to make sure you're not being destructive with your eating habits. I'd like to point out at this point...um....that was terribly worded. My dietitian was very insensitive, and a lot of things that triggered me were brought up and discussed, and I found her mannerisms quite unpleasant- but then, I wasn't well at the time, so that probably influenced my dislike of her. Apparently she wasn't widely liked.

I hope it goes well for you. I hope you can read and make sense of my jumbled account of my experience. If not, message me and I'll reply when I'm awake (I might even edit this to make sense when I'm not really really tired, haha)

Good luck! Let me know how you get on pls.

Take as long as you need.
