Not eating much - November 28th 2015, 06:34 AM

This isnt an eating disorder, but it fits here i think.

On weekends i eat normally, but on weekdays i never eat breakfast, have lunch sometimes and always eat dinner, as i dont feel comfortable eating around people. I think i feel fine, but im wondering if i should try and start eating more on weekdays, and if i would feel a bit better if i did.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are important meals so I do suggest making an effort to eat a proper amount during weekdays. The fact that you skip breakfast is concerning, but what is even more concerning is that you sometimes skip lunch also. Even if you feel fine, your body still needs the energy from food along with nutrients to stay healthy. What you eat and how much you eat has an impact on your overall mood as well. So not eating a lot may cause you to have less energy and feel low. You may not realize it if you have been in this pattern for awhile, though.

My suggestion is to ease yourself into eating 3 meals a day. Include healthy foods with vitamins and protein and keep that up for awhile to see how it makes you feel. A decent amount of exercise and healthy eating can make you feel a lot better. And if not, it is still healthy to eat proper meals because your body does need it. Overeating is not good and neither is not eating enough, so it's best to find a healthy balance.

Is the reason you don't eat a lot due to not being comfortable eating around others or do you simply not feel hungry often? Many people struggle with being uncomfortable eating around other people so you aren't alone. Would it help to slowly ease out of your comfort zone by eating small amounts? You can start by eating with those closest, parents, siblings, then other family members, then move on to friends, then public places. Slowly ease into it. You can start small by eating small snacks first, then eating meals in front of others once you get comfortable with eating snacks. I understand it must be hard for you but you can do this. Be patient with yourself.

A bit of both. I find eating around my dad, step mum and sister fine, but i find it hard to eat around my mum and step dad and other people. I can eat in a restaurant fine.
