Diagnosed? - March 22nd 2016, 04:42 AM

I just want more information about EDs. My mom struggles with one and I'm not sure if she knows that because a doctor told her. I guess I just want i know why people even have to be diagnosed. Isn't it just a way someone is around food?

I used to starve and I still feel fat even when everyone else says I'm thin. I get depressed when I gain weight and now I'm known as a "health freak" at school. Isn't that classified as an ED?

I'm just confused. Will someone plese explain? Thank you.

Hi

I guess we get diagnosis so we can be treated for the disorder we have. You may have an eating disorder but because we're not medically trained, we can not diagnose you. I've been diagnosed with EDNOS and bulimia. I can relate to hoe hard it is to gaining weight but from what you've told be you're at a healthy weight, so it's about finding ways to deal with all of this. I've said a lot to you already today and I hope that's helped a little but keep fighting okay? Eating disorders are hard to get through like any other illness. Maybe you could talk to your mum about all this too? And if you ever want to talk to me, feel free to shoot me a PM.

Hope and wishes,
Jessie

Okay thank you. But can someone tell if they have an ED before being diagnosed and then go to a doctor to get treatment? Does it work that way because EDs are just a way of thinking right?

Yes they can. I knew I had a problem with my eating way before I had been diagnosed. But you can't diagnose yourself
