Getting distracted (the quicker the better) - August 25th 2011, 09:20 PM

So first of all I have a problem with bingeing and restricting

So it is pretty much what the title says. Getting distracted when you are supposed to be eating. I am honestly not doing it on purpose I don't think but like I go to grab my food and I think of something and have to do it or else I will forget. I m actually suppose to be eating right now but I am so distracted with a lot of things and then when I do go to grab the food I basically stop.

I never really got that whole you have a second voice in your head thing but is this what they mean by that. Is that why I can't seem to eat right now?

But I either have to eat it or throw it away because my grandma will find out that I didn't eat it if it comes back home with me. And if I throw it away I will feel really guilty and probably end up telling her in the next week.

Any help would be great and also if someone who has had an ed before wouldn't mind PMing me and explaining that whole voice in the headd thing that would be great too.

Thank you

As the smoke clears
I awaken, and untangle you from me
Would it make you, feel better to watch me while I bleed?
All my windows, still are broken
But I'm standing on my feet

Hey Frankie. :)

I never really understood what people meant by having a voice inside your head until I was able to look at my own situation from an outside point of view. I believe we personify our eating disorders and that "voice" is that of our eating disordered thoughts. The same thoughts that put us down on some days and feed the illness by telling us we cannot exist without the disorder.

I haven't quite been in this situation myself. Perhaps you can keep a little post it with a pen lying around so you can write down things that pop into your head without getting distracted while you are supposed to be eating. Sit down and let yourself have this moment without any distractions. If it's something that can wait until afterwards, write it down and save it for later. You take priority over anything you can possibly think of doing.

Be good to yourself.

Angel has a good idea with the sticky notes and as for the whole "voice" thing, at least for me. It's not technically like a whole other voice, but what it is is your mind telling you that you don't deserve the food, or you don't need it, or even things like it doesn't matter you're already fat and how could you have eaten that? Go get rid of it. Basically it is your thoughts, but if you didn't have the ED, you wouldn't be thinking like that, and that's why people call it another voice, because technically, even though it is how they think, it's only because of the ED.
