tanning and scars - April 15th 2009, 03:05 PM

Ok so I cut myself a while ago on my stomach and when I did, I cut words. Im going to Florida in May and Im really scared that the scars wont tan but I will. Do scars tan along with the rest of your body?

The scars wont tan, you should try to minimise the scars with oils and creams and stuff before you hit the beach. It will help, but it wont be perfect, as the scars will stay the same colour, and you will be darker.

From personally experience, they will tan, but they will be a lighter shade than the rest of your body. They might also turn red.

The scars right now are really light and cant be seen very easily unless you like really look. I dont know if that makes a difference?

They will always be a different tone than the rest of your skin, it depends on the scar I guess if it tans or not, or how well it tans from the thickness of the scar or something. But it wont tan like your normal skin.

if you can hardly see them now, it wont be a big deal im thinking

That does make a difference. If they are hard to see, I wouldn't worry about it.They might tan, it really depends on your skin. Mine tan a bit, but my scars are also not very light. The light ones tend to disappear when I get tan.Using scar cream will help with them also. Just be careful with exposing your scars to direct sunlight.

I think that they will tan, but as has already been said, they will probably stay slightly lighter than the rest of your body, after all they're not the same colour of the rest of your skin when you're not tanned. But, from personal experience, mine have always been less noticable when I do have a tan.

I have scars on my arms. I wear tshirts a lot and I play sports. Most of the scars are on the underside of my arm. I do have two scars on my bicep. My arms are a nice shade of brown, my scars are raised and white. For me, my scars tend to NOT tan while the rest of me does. Everyone is different, however.

Re: tanning and scars - April 23rd 2009, 12:16 AM

I live in FL and when I tan, my scars show up more so than when I'm not in the sun.
They are very white while the rest of me is dark. I've had friends as well who have had the same issue. So, for us, yes the scars are more noticable when tanned, however it might be different for you. I agree with the cream though. I think its worth a try.
