CPR. - January 30th 2013, 10:06 AM

PUT THEM HANDS UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who knows CPR? I do, I learnt when I was thirteen at swim school and as someone who really wants to join the Ambulance Service, I am SO glad I did learn how to do it. It is so important to know CPR just in case something happens because without Oxygen, I believe the stat is three minutes, for the brain to be starved of Oxygen and the patient to pass away............... I.E. You have three minutes to start CPR.

Another very scary stat is that only three percent of people in NSW survive a cardiac arrest outside of hospital. INFACT, it's so rare that they give you an award if you survive one.............. so by knowing and starting CPR you give the patient the best chance.

My point, it's important to know but do you know it?

H.

Yes, I know CPR.

First-Aid Certification is a requirement for gymnastics coaches, so I've done comprehensive first-aid. I'm no longer coaching, but I'd like to pay to do a refresher.

I know how to do CPR, but in all fairness, I really wouldn't trust myself doing it unless I absolutly had to

My grandfather taught CPR/First Aid classes all my life till about 10yrs ago. When I would go to his place sometimes he'd have a 1 on 1 session with a student so I learned a lot there.

Sadly, I do not know CPR yet. But I plan on it during the course of my High School years.

I surely do. As a kid I had a friend who was crazy into first aid, so she taught me some stuff like CPR and the recovery position. Then in high school I did a full first aid course, which I've renewed so that my certification is still valid. Never know when it'll come in handy.

I do know CPR, but I learned it in a first aid/CPR course a couple years ago, so I really should get my certification renewed one of these days. I still remember it though (especially how awkward it was on a plastic dummy ), so I'm not too worried.

I have the highest level of CPR available here (health care provider) which is restricted to people who work in a medical field (I'm allowed to get it because I'm going to school to be a paramedic)

Re: CPR. - February 2nd 2013, 08:55 PM

I think this is only shown in the UK just now, but it's the best CPR quick-learn thing I've ever seen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILxjxfB4zNk
It's informative, funny, and therefore a fantastic way to learn. And the song is perfect.

ANYWAY. To actually answer your question, yes! I've learned CPR about 5/6 times now. In High School I told them I'd done it recently with Girl Guides so they let me supervise everyone else instead of doing it again. Always handy to know, and I'm so glad you don't need to oxygenate them anymore, that always freaked me out.

Re: CPR. - February 3rd 2013, 01:16 AM

I learned basic CPR and First Aid when I started babysitting.

Scary-enough, I had to know how to use the Heimlich on a 1 year old Thanks to my training just a few months before...He was fine! Definitely can't hurt to know, even if you 'have no reason' to use it.

I never thought I would need it, but he found a hole in a pillow and stuffed his mouth with the cotton...Cotton dries out your mouth. He began choking to the point his was went red to blue, then he wasn't coughing anymore! So I hoisted him somewhat upside down (just leaning downward on my arm) and gave a quick thwap to his back. He ended up projectiling it all out and seemed fine after.

Since then, I always renew my certs. You never know when you might need it!!!

I said no, but really, the answer is sort of. I know hands-free CPR only from my job. I'd like to get fully trained, just haven't had the time/money.
