Read the post below! :-) :-D

And she turns up the music, to drown out her life.

22/12/2014 was the last date I self-harmed. The longest I have gone so far is 1 year, 2 months and 5 days. This time, I hope I can give up! New record: 1 year 6 months! Yay!!

Blood test... :S - February 1st 2013, 09:15 PM

Skip to last paragraph for the general idea, the rest is just background information.

Last year I was hospitalised with glandular fever and tonsillitus - I don't remember much, except staying awake most of the night, showering at 7am and then sleeping for the morning. I remember occasionally being woken up for my medicine and playing hangman on the tv thing they had. I also remember feeling really really weak and having stomach pains. Well, pain in that kind of area, it was my liver, I think.

Anyway, I got out there on 27th January 2012. But, I came down with tonsillitus on 29th January 2013 (on Tuesday). Yeah, I know. January hates me.

I went to the hospital yesterday and the woman tried to get me to do a blood test. And I freaked. I broke down in tears and refused to have it done. So I went back into the waiting room and some guy just checked my stomach and said that there wasn't much they could do.

Basically, tonsillitus is a bacterial infection and it treated with antibiotics. Glandular fever is a virual infection and there is no treatment for it, your body must deal with it naturally. And if it is glandular fever, there would be no harm in me taking the antibiotics, so I carried on with them.

But tonsillitus is contagious for 48 hours after starting treatment and glandular fever is contagious for up to two months!!

I work with children. <----- That sentence in the problem!! I could go back to work as soon as I feel better, but if it's glandular fever, then it would be awful if I passed it on to a child, especially because it's a difficult thing to fight off and it can be dangerous for a child - especially as they run around as soon as they have energy.

So, the only way to determine which one I have is through a blood test. I HATE NEEDLES!!!!! (Maybe that sentence is more of a problem than the other one :S)

So how could I prepare myself for a blood test that I might have to take tomorrow or something?

I know the probability of catching glandular fever twice is low, but I can't remember if they did a blood test to confirm it last year or not.

I will ring my manager on Monday and ask her when I'm needed back at work anyway. But I'm actually supposed to be getting a certain amount of hours for my childcare course at this placement, but I may not be able to do this if I have too much time off!! I only have until the end of May to do this!

Help!!! Freaking now!! Argh!

I may have either tonsillitus or glandular fever. Tonsillitus is contagious for 48 hours after starting medication (which I have started) and glandular fever can be contagious for up to two months. I work with children and can't risk passing it on to them, but I'm going to ring my manager and ask her when I should be back at work any way - but I have to work another 20 hours at this place, which only runs for four hours a day, in order to complete my childcare course. The only way to determine which one I have is to take a blood test, but I have a huge fear of this, so how do I actually go to the hospital to get one done without freaking out??

Thanks!
RosieJ

Maybe have someone there with you to help keep you calm and to be a support. Also make sure you look away when they do the needle. This sounds like something that really needs to be done for the safety of you and the children.
