Biting Nails - December 9th 2013, 01:26 AM

My mom is always telling me to stop biting my nails, it's become a really bad habit. Sometimes I don't even notice I'm biting my nails. And I don't know how I'm still able to bite my nails, I pretty much don't have any nails left to bite. How can I quit this annoying habit?

I've been through this many times. I usually stop doing it when I have my nails painted. Because they look so nice painted I don't want to ruin them by biting them. Other than that, you can get some nail polish with a very horrible taste, that would hopefully put you off biting them.

You could put something clear that does not taiste good to you on your nails. I cannot think of anything at the moment. You could also reward yourself for going a certain amount of time without biting your nails. For instance, if you go a week, you can buy a candy you've been craving, then if you go two weeks, you can get another candy or figure out some other sort of reward.
Also, you could try wearing fake nails over your real nails (once they get long enough to put fake nails on that is) if you like the look of the gel nails for instance and really want to wear them, you can use getting them as an incentive. And they are rather hard so biting them off would definitely be a challenge (I had them at one point and they are extremely hard to get off and I'm never getting them again because of this).
I found This article that may be of some help to you.
I hope this information is helpful and that you can find other things to do instead of biting your nails or ways to cover your nails so that you cant/won't want to bite them.

"i don't care your intentions. I just want you to know my self-hatred never took me where I wanted to go. At the end of the day...I can pick at the pain but I can't cut it away."

Keep them short and paint them with the nailpolish that is designed to help people quit chewing nails. They made it when I was younger.
