Energy Drinks - August 7th 2009, 12:50 AM

Do they actually work? I've had 2 cans of Red Bull and they've had no affect on me at all today. It was the first time I've had them in a LONG time and I don't think they worked then...is there something up with my body?

Some work and some don't, but usually they're supposed to give you a buzz and then later you get very tired

I really, really enjoy monsters. They keep me focus on what I need to do.
However, you should remember to limit yourself! Caffeine gave me very addictive and I'm trying to cut back now.
I hope you find the energy drink that works for you, although be sure to drink in safe amounts!

I'm with Elizabeth here. I don't like red bull, but I enjoy Monsters and they seem to do the trick.
When I had swim practice in the morning before school, I would drink one on the way to school and it would keep me going throughout the day.
So maybe it's just the energy drink. Try switching it up?

They're the only thing that I can think of that's full of caffeine since I HATE coffee and I really need to stay up really late at night sometimes.

Energy drinks don't have any effect on me either. I've tried loads but they don't work, and coffee makes me ill. I don't know, i guess i'm just weird like that haha.
If you want to have proper energy; consume lots of carbs...they release energy slowly rather than giving you a quick jolt of energy.

Do you drink heavily caffeinated drinks often?
You could have built up caffeine tolerance and become resistant to its effects.

Remember that energy drinks shouldn't be consumed when doing physical activity as they speed up your heart-rate.

I'm caffeine intolerant ^^;;

Re: Energy Drinks - August 8th 2009, 09:10 PM

I never, absolutely never drink cafeine in any form, so if I do, it really works the way it should

So if I know i'm going hard I get myself 1liter of redbul/monster
Combined with a very high alcohol percentage (15+ pints, 2 glasses of wine, bananajenever 2 shots, tequilla 1 shot, vodka 3 shots, red vodka 7 shots, whiskey) it's great
I was blind drunk, but I had such a high energy level and concentration last night it was amazing.
Thanks to the redbull I didn't suffer any withdrawal syndroms of the boose (I really shouldv puked or not been able to sleep, I overdid myself and i know it, but my body didn't feel that way at all)
I've slept 1u20min and I think i'm still running on the redbull xD

They're all different. My favorite is diet Rockstar. I like the taste as well as the effect It gives me. That sounds good right now, a nice cold Rockstar.

Blue monsters are good as well. I hate Red Bull. When I drank it is tasted like... Sour apple or something. As far as I can remember It's nasty. Java monsters taste like coffee... And that's what they are, Iced Coffee. They are really good. I've tried Full Throttle and Go-Girls and both of those taste like CRAP.

One thing about me though, maybe the same with you. Is if I don't have water or food in me they can make me feel sick.

Edit: I drank a redline once... I will most likely never drink one again.

Energy drinks kill you. FACT.
Each one you have takes five minutes off your life.
The chemicals accumulate, and if you have too many, you could just drop dead.
NEVER in my life, have I touched an energy drink. Ever.
A teenage guy a little while ago had 4 Red Bulls in one hour. He died from it.
Don't drink them.
Sorry, I feel strongly about them.

Monster are good as long as you get the right kind. (the coffee kind sux)
BUt yeah don't get sad if they have no effect.=], but don't drink to many. it can be pretty dangerous.

if you drink energy drinks for awhile the effects stop and it has the inverse, even if you hadnt had them in awhile.

try a differnt drink, or the energy shot.

You have to be already hydrated before you drink an energy drink. If you don't, your blood cells won't absorb it; they'll just retract. This is because energy drinks are mostly sugar.

And once you drink it you need to be doing some sort of physical activity. If you sit around waiting for a boost, it'll never come. XP

Also, Monster is better than Red Bull; it tastes fruitier and works faster.

Actually, energy drinks these days are designed to give you a huge boost of caffeine to make you more alert and awake.

Physical activity after consumption of energy drinks such as mother or monster can be very bad for your health. The Taurine/caffeine and other stimulants in the drink cause your heart rate to increase and combined with exercise can lead to cardiac arrest (heart attack). As you 'crash' you are also at an increased risk of seizures.
Especially since energy drinks these days have 5-10 times the amount of stimulant as they did when they first came out.

They are also more dangerous when combined with alcohol as they keep you alert so you can drink more.

One kind of Monster concentrate (Hitman) is considered an illegal import in my country and I'm not surprised. 2000mg or 2 GRAMS of Taurine and 5000mg or 5 GRAMS of 'Energy blend' in 89mls of liquid.
One of my classmates had some and was shaking for hours.

Personally I think that they are consumed far too readily and too many kids have become dependent on them.

Yeah, Christine is right...

They can actually cause you a heck of a lot of problems if you're doing exercise after them. I have a cousin who drank a couple of cans of Red Bull (I think, some energy drink anyway) and she went out playing basketball. Her heart sped up and she almost died... She was later diagnosed with a heart condition. So really, if you have an underlying heart problem that you don't know about, and go drinking energy drinks, you could end up seriously harming yourself.

All energy drinks are banned in my school. They mess with your brain and body too much. They were completely banned after a guy in my class drank like, 4/5? (Not a very smart guy ) and he started shaking, he couldn't talk and he had this weird nervous laugh for like an hour. If you even try to bring them into my school you're guaranteed detention.

Re: Energy Drinks - August 10th 2009, 02:42 PM

Energy drinks are just horrible. Period.
The thing about energy drinks is yes they have caffeine... generally as much as 2+ cups of coffee but they've also got a lot of other chemicals that speed the absorption of caffeine into your body... Think of injecting nitrous oxide into a car tank - burns fuel faster and gives the engine a boost - but at the expense of increased wear on the engine - ditto for your body - caffeine and all the other chemicals is like a supercharger - but you will crash afterward because of the increased wear. Your body needs time to fix things.
And the thing about energy drinks, at least in the US, is that the effects of all the other chemicals (Taurine, L-Carnitine, massive amounts of B-vitamins, etc) in them have not been thoroughly investigated so god knows what's going on chemically in your body when you're downing them. Major health effect is dehydration... you lose too much water from your body, systems start shutting down, in extreme cases.... And god only knows what energy drinks do to a growing body.
Me personally I've only done them when I've had zero sleep and even then I was more of a non-functional zombie than any level of usefulness.

I'd say stick to maybe a cup of coffee if you must have your caffeine fix. Ideally, steer clear of all of it.

-ice
