Exclamation period skipping - January 23rd 2009, 10:00 AM

I've looked into it and I found this

"Missing more than two periods in a row is unhealthy. It can put you at risk for uterine cancer because of the excessive exposure to estrogen. On the other hand, missing a period from a lack of estrogen can increase the risk of osteoporosis.
Irregular periods may mean you are not ovulating properly. This can be of great concern to women trying to get pregnant."

Now I really am concerned but to afriad to tell my mom, because she likes to jump to cinclusions that I might be pregnant. Now I've been missing my period everyother month for 6 years now and only two times have a missed 3 months in a row back in 2006 and now in 2008-09 I'm scared that I might ow be able to have kids in the future and that I'm at risk of having cancer and osteoporosis.....

Hey, sometimes people just have an irregular pattern. It could be irregular if you're very athletic, if you've been dieting or have an eating disorder. I'd check it out with the doctor. Just make an appointment and ask about it to see if everything's okay.

It depends on how long you have been having it. If you haven't been having your period long, its probably just going to settle, the trouble is with looking on the internet is that that could be aimed at women a lot older than us, and probably means women who have been getting this problem for a long time. However if you are concerned, visit a doctor.

Re: period skipping - January 23rd 2009, 06:40 PM

My doctor and I had a chat about this during my last visit as I was deciding which pill to switch to and as you know there are several options now that allow you to only get your period a few times a year. He said, as far as the studies he's seen go, it's perfectly healthy, and serious effects such as infertility are very slim in people under the age of 30-35 something around there, now im not sure of the facts 100% I'm simply stating what my doctor has relayed to me. If you are concerned, seek a doctors opinion, and when doing internet research make sure it's a reputable source, many medical sites are unfortunatly written by unqualified individuals.

Remember you're worth fighting for
Remember you're not a punching bag
Remember you're not a doormat
Remember you are valuable
Remember you are repairable
Remember you matter
Remember they don't."

Wow, I never knew that. Thank you for that information.

I think you should show your mum this article you have found this from and explain what is going on with your periods and for how long. That would just be to explain that you're not pregnant if she jumps to that conclusion. Then, you must get yourself to your doctor. I feel like you should see one about this and see what they can do for you and this issue.
